The Fake Heiress Who Tamed the Young Don Chapter 05

Ricardo seemed to have been there for a long time.

Condensation from the iced drink in his hand slid down his fingers and dripped to the ground, leaving a wet mark near his shoes.

I immediately stopped smiling and clutched the worksheet.

“Ricky… why are you here?”

He walked closer and stopped in front of me.

“Mom called me.”

His tone revealed nothing.

My eyes widened, and I bit my lip.

“I didn’t tell Mom about the forms, and I didn’t complain to her.”

He stared at me.

A few seconds later, he looked away and gave a faint, noncommittal hum.

On the way to the classroom, I twisted the hem of my shirt.

“Ricky, you can go. I can fill out the forms myself. It’s not a big deal. Don’t waste your time.”

The person in front of me stopped abruptly.

I almost crashed into his back, then quickly stepped away to put distance between us.

Ricardo inhaled.

“I’m not busy today.”

“Oh.”

When we reached the classroom, he inserted a straw into the iced drink and handed it to me.

It was orange juice from the place I had always loved.

I took it stiffly.

“Thank you, Ricky.”

He paused.

“Mm.”

After that, neither of us spoke for a long time.

I held the plastic cup.

For some reason, the wall of the cup felt slightly warped, rough against my fingers.

After the parent meeting ended, I walked him to the school gate.

Before getting into the car, he said, “The lab has been busy lately, and there’s new conflict with another crew in the family. I won’t be home for now. If you have questions you can’t solve, send them to me.”

I waved my hand.

“Just do your work. If I don’t understand something, I’ll ask Marino. You don’t need to worry about me.”

Ricardo met my eyes.

His black pupils looked especially cold in the light.

But in the end, he said nothing.

As graduation exams approached, my head was packed with papers every day, leaving no room to think about anything else.

The comments said Ricardo and Tecla went to the aquarium today and a concert tomorrow.

I saw them and forgot them.

Ricardo came home a few times in between.

I greeted him, then obediently returned to my room.

There was no extra conversation.

Gradually, Ricardo stopped coming home much at all.

I was happy to have the peace.

On graduation night, there was a class party.

Swept up in the atmosphere, I drank a few glasses.

By the end, I could barely walk straight.

Marino carried me on his back all the way to the front door.

“Signorina Talia, you’re home.”

I clung to his shoulders and refused to get down no matter what.

While I was laughing, the door suddenly opened.

A figure stepped out from inside and reached toward me.

“Talia Moretti, get down.”

So fierce.

I tilted my head and hid behind Marino.

The back of my collar suddenly tightened.

He actually lifted me down like I was a cat.

I quickly reached toward Marino.

“I don’t want him.”

Before I could finish, someone locked me forcefully into his arms.

“Thanks for your trouble. Have a safe trip.”

Marino seemed to want to say something, but the black door slammed shut in front of me.

I slapped hard at the arm around my waist.

“Let me go. I want to find Marino.”

“Shut up.”

“Marino, Marino, Marino!”

It seemed I finally pushed him too far.

My back slammed against the wall.

I looked at his clenched fist and shut my eyes tight in fear.

But the pain I imagined never came.

Just as I secretly cracked one eye open, a weight dropped against my shoulder.

I could even feel his body heat, his scent, and his heavy breathing against my ear.

“Talia Moretti, stop pushing me.”
