The Fake Group Darling Picked a Fight with the Real Boss Chapter 05

The terrace was so quiet you could hear people breathing.

Sylvie’s face turned pale. “You… none of you ever asked me to pay!”

I smirked. “They didn’t ask because they’ve got money to burn. Tens of thousands is nothing

to them.”

“But you calling mooching off everyone ‘being chill’? Kind of an insult to the word, don’t you

think?”

“We never kept track of stuff like this between us!”

Colson pulled out his phone. “Who said we didn’t keep track? The four of us balance every

single expense at the end of every month. We’ve gone Dutch for over a decade.”

“Your tab is the only one that’s never been settled.”

“Because every time your turn came up, Rupert said to drop it and that he’d cover you.”

Everyone looked at Rupert.

For the first time tonight, Rupert couldn’t keep his composure.

Watching this unfold, I finally understood why Zoya broke up with him.

His girlfriend of seven years was lying sick in the hospital, and he ran off to a bar to pick

someone else up.

Meanwhile, this “friend” he kept talking about had freeloaded tens of thousands off him in a

single year.

And just like that, her first cover was blown in public.

Moments ago, Sylvie was the group favorite everyone doted on.

Now, she turned into a leech collector who had only Rupert footing her bills.

Sylvie’s face flushed bright red as she gripped her glass tightly. “Keep playing! What’s the big

deal?”

Good.

Next round, it was my turn to ask.

I looked at her and asked slowly, “Alright, I’ll ask the simplest one then. Out of everyone here,

who do you actually like?”

Hearing this question, Sylvie actually let out a sigh of relief.

She probably thought I’d keep hounding her about the money.

She smiled, deliberately coy. “Someone I like? Of course there is.

Then she looked at Rupert, then let her gaze land on Manuel and held it there for a few

seconds.

Rupert visibly sat up straight.

Manuel didn’t even look up-he was busy peeling a shrimp.

Once peeled, he placed it onto my plate.

I took in the whole scene crystal clear and drawled slowly, “How strange.”

Sylvie retorted, “What’s strange about it?”

“Don’t you say that they’re all like big brothers to you?”

“Well, with the way you looked at them just now, anyone who didn’t know better would think you were picking a boyfriend.”

The entire table went silent for a few seconds.

Colson was the first to burst out laughing.

Sylvie panicked, “I just meant there’s someone I admire! Admiration doesn’t mean dating!

Don’t twist my words!”

I nodded like I totally understood.

“Got it.”

“Rupert covers the bill. Manuel plays the lead. The rest are the supporting cast.”

“Quite a complete setup you’ve got going on.”
