The Eve of Our Forever, He Chose Her Chapter 5 Too Late to Take Me Back

Ethan tried to suppress the growing unease in his chest.

Still pretending nothing was wrong, he picked up his phone and sent me a message.

“What the hell is this supposed to mean?

Now you’re pulling the disappearing act?

Get back here right now and I might pretend none of this ever happened.”

The message sent.

Immediately, a red warning icon appeared.

That was when he realized-

He had been blocked.

A surge of rage shot through him.

Ethan slammed his phone onto the floor.

“Daphne, you’ve got some nerve,” he muttered through clenched teeth.

He paced the apartment, breathing heavily.

“Fine,” he sneered. “Stay gone if you want. Let’s see how long you can last.”

He was furious.

But three days passed.

His phone remained completely silent.

The sense of control he had always felt began slipping away, replaced by a restless, suffocating anxiety.

Unable to take it anymore, Ethan called Maya and the rest of the guys and headed to their usual bar.

“Daphne still hasn’t forgiven you?” one of them laughed. “That’s ridiculous. All you did was go on a trip without her.

“If I were your girlfriend, I wouldn’t make a big deal out of something like that.”

Maya sat beside Ethan, looking innocent as ever, while the others kept talking.

But this time Ethan didn’t stay silent.

His voice turned cold.

“Whatever happens between us, she’s still my girlfriend.

“It’s not your place to talk about her.”

Maya froze slightly.

Ethan ran a hand through his hair in frustration, grabbed a friend’s phone, and quickly dialed a number he knew by heart.

While the call rang, his chest tightened with a mixture of nervousness and fear.

Then the line connected.

“Hello?”

Hearing my voice again, Ethan suddenly felt an urge to cry.

But he forced himself to maintain his usual arrogant tone.

“Daphne, where are you?” he said. “I’m drunk. Come pick me up.”

On the other end of the phone, I was lying on the bed in my childhood bedroom, staring blankly at the ceiling.

The photography exhibition had ultimately ended in disaster.

All of my work had been ruined.

I had even been forced to pay a large penalty for breaching the contract.

Both my career and my relationship had collapsed at the same time.

Every day in that empty apartment had felt suffocating, so I eventually came back home to stay with my parents for a while.

When I told them about the breakup, they didn’t ask many questions.

They simply looked at my thinner face and quietly cooked my favorite meals every day.

Now, half a month later, Ethan was calling again.

And as if it were the most natural thing in the world, he expected me to pick him up.

‘I’m not coming,” I said calmly.

‘Let Maya take you home.”

‘Haven’t you had enough?” Ethan snapped. “You blocked me, disappeared, and vanished without a word. Do you have any idea now long I’ve been looking for you?”

His anger was barely contained.

When I didn’t respond, his tone softened slightly.

“Look,” he said. “I’m giving you a way out.

“If you move back in right now, I’m willing to forget everything and take you back.”

Every word sounded like charity.

Like he was doing me a favor.

I was about to speak when Ethan interrupted again.

“Daphne, you should know when to stop.

“Don’t you realize? Our relationship is like water and fish. You can’t live without me.”

“And besides,” he added smugly, “who else is going to put up with your temper and keep taking you back every time?”

Even now, Ethan believed this was just another one of my emotional outbursts.

He thought I would eventually apologize like I always had.

I took a deep breath.

Then I spoke slowly and clearly.

“Ethan, it’s over.

“Don’t call me again.”

I hung up.

Then I blocked that number as well.

From that moment on, my world had nothing to do with him anymore.
