The Don’s Throwaway Wife Chapter 05

The Don’s Throwaway Wife Chapter 05

My voice stayed flat and steady. “I’m not playing any game. Isn’t this what you wanted? For me to give it to her?”

“If there’s something else you want me to hand over, just say the word.”

He narrowed his eyes. “Fine, fine! Keep acting like this-get out. This house belongs to Mia now.”

I blinked once. “Right now?”

“Leave, this instant.”

He sneered. “What, you don’t want to go?”

I didn’t argue, heading straight to the bedroom to pack my bags.

Five years living in this mansion, and all my belongings fit into one small carry-on suitcase.

The more I packed, the darker Dante’s expression grew.

When I grabbed the suitcase and headed for the front door, he stepped in front of me, blocking the

exit.

“This coat’s another gift from me. It’d look far nicer on her.”

I glanced out at the raging snowstorm, then back at him. Without hesitation, I slipped the coat off my shoulders and draped it over Mia’s shoulders.

“Take whatever else you want while you’re at it.”

He ground his teeth together hard, then shoved me out the front door.

“We’ll see how long that tough act lasts.’

The door slammed shut behind me.

I crashed to the icy pavement, knees scraping raw against the frozen slush. My suitcase was still trapped inside the house.

Frigid wind cut straight through my thin dress.

I scrambled back to my feet and banged hard against the wood.

“Dante! Give me my bag back!”

The snow swallowed the sound of my knuckles hitting the door. No one opened up.

i gritted my teeth and kept walking. If I stopped moving, I’d freeze solid.

The security guard at the nearest shopping mall turned me away.

“Ma’am, it’s nothing personal. The Don issued strict orders-none of the businesses under his turf

can serve you.”

This was Brooklyn for you. A city where I had nothing, nowhere to go.

Dante, you’re cruel beyond words.

My legs went numb, my mind slowing down with every step.

I found an overpass. Underneath, piles of cardboard, a frayed blanket, beside an unhoused man

who’d passed away in the cold.

I curled myself up as far away from his body as I could get.

When thirst hit, I ate handfuls of snow. When hunger gnawed at me, I slept to escape it.

Frostbite burned constant, dull pain through my hands.

Every time footsteps echoed nearby, I dragged the man’s body closer to hide behind.

I survived like that for two full days.

Christmas Eve, I crawled out from under the bridge to beg for food.

A giant screen outside the mall blared footage of Dante and Mia. He’d bought every fireworks display in the entire city just for her.

Midnight struck.

I took a cold roll from a street vendor, but I’d barely taken two bites before security chased me off

again.

Night fell, and my body temperature plummeted fast in the snowstorm.

Three. Two. One.

The sky exploded with brilliant bursts of color.

Right before my vision blurred completely, a Maybach pulled to a stop directly in front of me.
