The Don’s Throwaway Wife Chapter 03

The Don’s Throwaway Wife Chapter 03

Through the glass wall of the private booth, I watched Dante stand surrounded by his crew.

“Don, what happens if she finds out you rigged the draw on purpose, never letting her pull the lucky coin?”

Dante’s voice dragged, lazy and taunting.

“She’s not worthy of the spot yet. Even if she figures it out, so what? A little sweet talk, and she’ll forgive me all over again.”

Even with the heated floors under my feet, ice spread down my spine.

“Elara might brush it off, but what about the Moretti Family?”

Dante paused, a cocky grin tugging at his lips. “They’re three thousand miles away. They can’t touch a thing here.”

Three thousand miles.

The distance I’d crossed at eighteen chasing love, now just a measurement of how insignificant I’d become to him.

I turned to leave, but the door swung open before I could step away.

Mia the dancer stood there clutching two bottles of whiskey, her smile sickly sweet like melted syrup.

“Elara! Come join us!”

Before I could step back, she shoved me inside the room. I stumbled, and a handful of painkillers spilled across the floor.

She dropped back onto Dante’s lap, giggling. “You brought hangover pills for him? You’re so good to him, Elara. All I ever do is nag him to drink less.”

Dante looked pleased. He reached down to grab the pills off the ground.

I swatted his hand away and tossed every tablet straight into the trash bin.

“If he’s capable of drinking, he doesn’t need anything to soften the blow.”

His hand froze mid-air, his gaze turning frigid.

Then he slid his hand up under her dress.

“Exactly. I don’t need anyone waiting on me hand and foot.”

Tension thickened the air instantly. Someone spun an empty liquor bottle, and it landed pointing straight at Dante.

“Pick someone to share the night with you.”

I ignored their stupid game, eyes locked on my phone screen.

Luca: Everything’s set. I’ll come get you Christmas Eve.

Relief washed over me. I’d barely started typing a reply when a hand smacked the phone right out of my grip.

Dante clamped his fingers around my wrist, voice low and furious.

“I’m picking Mia. Go get everything ready for us.”

No one spoke. Their stares were split between pity and mocking amusement.

He lifted Mia into his arms. As he walked past me, he jerked his chin toward the master bedroom.

“That room’s ours tonight.”

He knew I hated sharing our space with strangers.

I nodded calmly. I pulled an unopened box of condoms from the nightstand drawer and set it on top.

Then I shut the bedroom door behind me.

I tore the top page off my wall calendar.

Three more days.
