The Don’s Secret Wife Was Mafia Royalty Chapter 05

Three months passed before Dante Moretti saw his daughters’ faces.

Not because anyone stopped him. He simply didn’t come.

In those three months, my life transformed so completely it felt like waking from a long gray dream into blinding color. Grandfather moved us into his fortress on the Upper East Side the day I was discharged – private medical convoy for the twins, a nursery assembled in forty-eight hours, neonatal nurses around the clock, and outside every window, men whose only job on this earth was to make sure my daughters kept

breathing.

Everything their father should have provided. Everything he never thought to offer.

I spent those weeks in a haze of fierce, terrifying love. Luna and Stella were so small that every breath felt like a miracle. I held them skin to skin for hours, willing my heartbeat to steady theirs.

“You’re their anchor,” the nurse told me, watching Stella’s oxygen stabilize the second I picked her up. “You’re the safest thing in their world.”

The safest thing. Me. The woman who couldn’t protect herself for three years.

But something was rebuilding inside me in those quiet 3 AM hours. Not hope I’d learned to distrust hope. Something harder. Something with teeth.

And while I learned my daughters’ cries, my grandfather went to work.

He didn’t send soldiers. The Wolf doesn’t start wars; he ends the conditions that make resistance possible. The Moretti shipping contracts at the Jersey docks – quietly outbid and absorbed. Two judges in Dante’s pocket flipped. The union bosses who moved his product – suddenly answering Russian phone calls. Three of Dante’s capos defected in a single week, because Nikolai Volkov offered them something Dante never had:

a future on the winning side.

“Your grandfather is terrifying,” Katya told me during our morning call, genuine admiration in her measured voice. “He’s not attacking the famiglia. He’s dissolving it. Like salt in water.”

And the annulment? Void. Katya’s filing was a masterpiece: the NDA crumbled, the “settlement” was exposed as coercion, and – the blade hidden in the velvet – Dante’s marriage to Camilla Russo was legally bigamous,

because his marriage to me had never been dissolved at all.

The king of New York was a bigamist. His sacred alliance with the Russo family was built on a marriage that

didn’t exist.

I was feeding Luna at 2 AM when my phone lit up.

UNDERWORLD EARTHQUAKE: Moretti Famiglia Loses Dock Control. Five Families Call Emergency Sit-Doh Sources Say the Volkov Organization Is Behind the Collapse.

Even the crime blogs and the tabloids smelled blood now. Who provoked the Wolf? What does Volkov want? Why now?

None of them knew the answer was sitting in a dark nursery in a milk-stained sweater, holding a sleeping

three-month-old.

My phone buzzed. Grandfather.

The Families sit down tomorrow. The Russos are already maneuvering against him. His own people are

panicking. How are my great-granddaughters?

I looked at Luna, milk-drunk and peaceful, her tiny hand wrapped around my finger.

They’re perfect, I typed. And they send their love to the Wolf.

Tell them their great-grandfather is about to take their father’s crown – and lay it in their crib.

I smiled in the dark. A real smile, from somewhere deep and newly alive.

For three years, Dante Moretti made me invisible because in his world, visible women die.

He was about to learn that invisible women remember everything.

And tomorrow, at a table of kings, the man who erased me would lose his throne without ever knowing the

ghost wife he discarded was the one holding the knife.
