The Don’s Fake Sister in Law Chapter 02

The Don’s Fake Sister in Law Chapter 02

Nathan’s expression flickered through a dozen emotions, like his brain was buffering too hard to keep up.

“Want an apple? I’ll peel one for you. No need to call me Donna like the guards do—too formal. Just Claire’s fine.”

Five million dollars is nice, but you two using me as a bet?

That I don’t like.

Nathan flinched at the name “Donna,” his face going green.

He opened his mouth like he wanted to say something, but caught himself at the last second.

He had to stick to his “amnesia” bit.

Calling me out now would blow his cover.

He tried to stay calm, but I could see the tears pooling at the corners of his eyes.

His voice cracked when he spoke.

“I… Ethan’s single, isn’t he?”

I waved it off with a smile.

“You’ve got amnesia, so it makes sense you don’t remember Ethan has a girlfriend.”

Nathan pressed hard on his temples, frantic.

“I think I’m starting to remember something.”

I pulled out his medical records—black and white, and practically shoved them in his face.

“The doctor said there’s no chance of you regaining your memory.”

He clutched that paper like a lifeline, veins bulging in his hands.

I set the peeled apple by his bedside and patted his head before heading out.

“If it’s forgettable, it wasn’t important. Look forward, not back.”

“I’m off to get a room with Ethan—no, wait, I’m off to have dinner with Ethan. You rest up. We’ll come see you when we’re done.”

I waved and walked out, smiling.

The moment the door clicked shut, a sound of pure anguish echoed from inside.

Ethan had no idea what was said in that room.

He turned to me, his eyes softer now, satisfied with my cooperation.

On the drive over, he’d been guiding me the whole time.

“Nathan agreeing to this act shows he doesn’t trust you. Cracks in a relationship don’t heal—they only spread. Begging won’t change anything.”

“Take the money and leave with dignity. Trust me—you don’t want to see the Campbell family’s methods.”

Ethan knew exactly which buttons to push.

I slipped my bank card into his hand.

“I don’t want to deal with the check at the bank. Could you have someone wire it to this card instead?”

He nodded, handing both the check and the card to his consigliere.

By the time I stepped out of the room, the money was already in my account.

My phone buzzed with the deposit confirmation.

When Ethan handed my card back, he had no idea—there was a face pressed against the door glass behind him.

Nathan was watching, his eyes fixed on the card in Ethan’s hand.

From his angle, it looked like a key card.

And thanks to my little performance earlier, he assumed exactly that.

Nathan’s expression darkened, veins popping at his temples.

I took the card, brushing my fingers against Ethan’s hand in a way that was far too familiar. “Thanks, Don.”

I tucked the card into my bag and walked away.

Ethan stared at his hand where I’d touched him, his fingers curling almost unconsciously.

The moment I turned the corner and disappeared, Nathan burst out of his room.

The man who was supposed to be on death’s door pounced on Ethan like a mad dog, beating him into the ground while the consigliere scrambled to pull them apart.

“Ethan, you bastard! You stole my woman!”
