The Don’s Fake Poverty Chapter 08

The Don’s Fake Poverty Chapter 08

Aria’s POV

My farewell dinner at a Manhattan rooftop restaurant.

I had some champagne and felt a bit stuffy, so I pushed open the glass doors and walked out to the

terrace for some fresh air.

A moment later, an insanely sharp shriek ripped through the night sky.

“Aria-go to hell!”

I whipped my head around.

A figure lurched from the shadows behind a decorative palm. A woman with tangled hair and the haunted look of a ghost.

It was Chloe.

She had no more couture gowns or million-dollar jewels. She was wearing a dirty, torn trench coat.

For three years, Killian went completely mad looking for me. He stripped Chloe of all her family

privileges, cut off her cards, and kicked her out of the Long Island estate like a stray dog.

Her face was twisted in rage. Her eyes bugged out. She gripped a sharp steak knife stolen from the

restaurant.

“It’s all your fault! You bitch!”

She screamed wildly and lunged, aiming the knife straight at my heart.

“You ruined everything! I’m going to kill you!”

The knife gleamed under the moonlight.

She was too close. In my gown, I couldn’t dodge in time.

Just in the nick of time.

A tall shadow leaped from the dark at suicidal speed.

It was Killian.

Without a second of hesitation, he threw himself in front of me.

The knife meant for my heart plunged deep into his left shoulder blade, right up to the hilt.

Blood sprayed out instantly, splattering across my heels.

Killian let out a painful grunt. But instinct took over, and he used his good arm to shield me tightly

behind him.

“Take her down!”

My guards and the restaurant security finally snapped into action and swarmed her.

“Let me go! Let me kill her!” Chloe thrashed violently as four large men pinned her down.

Crash!

In the struggle, the champagne tower fell. Sharp glass shattered all over the floor.

A huge shard of glass sliced deep into Chloe’s arm, ripping open a long, gaping gash.

“Boss! Are you okay?”

His standby doctor rushed over with a medical kit, frantically pressing down on Killian’s bleeding

shoulder.

Killian’s face was chalk-white. Cold sweat dripped from his forehead.

He ignored the doctor completely, his eyes locked on me. “Aria… are you hurt? Did she touch you?”

I looked at him coldly. I didn’t speak. I even took a step back to avoid the smell of his blood.

Right then, the doctor glanced at Chloe on the floor to assess her wound.

The next second, the doctor’s hands froze.

He stared wide-eyed at Chloe’s slashed arm, his jaw dropping.

“This… this is impossible…” the doctor blurted out in shock. His voice shook.

“Her arm… the wound… it’s clotting. It’s clotting normally!”

Dead silence fell over the terrace,

Only the freezing wind howled.

“Boss…” The doctor swallowed hard in terror, pointing at Chloe’s arm. “She… she doesn’t have a bleeding disorder at all! Her platelet function is completely normal!”

Absolute silence.

Killian, who had been clutching his shoulder, went completely rigid.

He slowly turned his head. His eyes locked onto Chloe’s arm.

That deep gash wasn’t bleeding out like it was supposed to. It wasn’t even oozing anymore. A dark red scab had already formed.

“What did you say?” Killian’s voice was light as a ghost.

The doctor’s legs gave out. He fell straight to his knees.

Under Killian’s terrifying, murderous glare, the doctor’s mental defenses crumbled.

“Mercy, Boss! Have mercy!” The doctor slammed his head against the floor, sobbing and spilling

everything.

“During the blizzard three years ago… Miss Chloe gave me five million dollars… paid off all the nurses! She made me stay in the OR for three days to fake a life-or-death surgery!”

“She doesn’t have hemophilia! She never did! The whole thing was a lie!”

The lie was completely shredded.

The madness vanished from Chloe’s face. Pure terror took its place.

And Killian stood frozen.

The sheer absurdity and world-ending regret tore him apart in an instant.

He kicked Chloe brutally in the face.

Crack! Chloe’s nose broke. She screamed and coughed out a mouthful of blood.

“You lied to me… You dared to trick me with a lie like that!”

Killian’s eyes were practically dripping blood. He roared like a cornered beast.

“Because of your lie,” he roared, his voice breaking, “I left my wife to freeze in a blizzard! Because of you, I destroyed my own life!”

He ripped his gun from his waist and shoved it right against Chloe’s head.

If not for the last shred of sanity reminding him not to kill in front of me, he would’ve pulled the trigger.

“Get her out of my sight,” Killian snarled. “Throw her in the cells. I want her to feel a fraction of the cold Aria felt. And make sure she lives a long, long time.”

After dealing with the snake, Killian’s strength evaporated.

He stumbled as he turned to look at me.

Ignoring the bloody hole in his shoulder, he fell to his knees in a pool of blood and wailed, “Aria! I was wrong… I’ll give you my life, okay? Just look at me, please!”
