The Day I Left He Proposed But I No Longer Wanted Marriage Chapter 10

In the coffee shop, Evan sat fidgeting nervously, clutching his coffee cup.

“Aria, I’m sorry.”

Those were the first words he said to me after sitting down. His voice was hoarse, and the rims of his eyes were red.

“These past three months, I’ve nearly gone insane. I searched everywhere for you, but no one knew where you’d gone.

I know I was terrible before. I ignored your feelings and made you suffer so much hurt.”

I watched him calmly. Toward his apology, I felt not a single ripple of emotion.

“Evan, your apology—I accept it.

But please, from now on, don’t come bothering my life anymore.”

Hearing those words, Evan’s emotions grew somewhat agitated.

“Why? Why do you have to be so utterly heartless?!

Six years of feelings between us—just because of one misunderstanding, you’re going to sentence me to death once and for all?”

Watching him unravel into this hysterics, I looked him straight in the eye.

“Evan, do you really think I don’t know why my graduation was delayed for three years straight?

Professor Bennett took the thesis I poured my soul into through countless sleepless nights—and with a mere change of face, turned it into her own academic achievement.

And you tacitly approved her behavior, blocking my diploma for three whole years!”

I laid out every charge, word by word. All the fury and grievance that had been pent up in the depths of my heart for so many years turned, in that moment, into the sharpest of blades.

“Throughout these six years, every single week you flew to Paris to be with Claire. Yet you never once came to Switzerland to see me!

You don’t even know how cold the winters are in Switzerland, how hard and tough the food is there!

What’s more, you don’t know that from all those sleepless days and nights, from all that endless anxiety, I developed a severe stomach condition and stayed awake night after night, doubled over in pain!”

At that point, I couldn’t help but start coughing violently.

“Cough, cough… cough, cough…”

Seeing this, Evan’s face changed drastically. In a fluster, he moved to come around the table and help pat my back.

“Aria! What’s wrong? Don’t scare me like this!”

I swatted away the hand he’d stretched out.

“Don’t touch me!”

Evan’s hand froze in midair.

“Aria, I’m sorry. I truly had no idea you were sick…”

His eyes reddened, and he looked at me with a gaze that was almost begging.

“Please, just give me one more chance, okay? I’ll definitely make it all up to you. Let’s start over.”

I pulled out a tissue and wiped away the faint trace of blood that had seeped from the corner of my lips.

“Evan, the dignity between adults means knowing when to stop.

Don’t keep clinging and dragging this on—it really is utterly pointless.”

I picked up my bag and stood, not casting another glance back at him.

“Aria!”

Evan’s shout suddenly came from behind me, making everyone in the coffee shop turn their heads to look.

“I won’t give up!

I never agreed to break up! We’re not over!”
