“When you heard me mention the Coopers at the studio, you must have been thrilled.”

Gina’s voice was sharp and ugly.

“You thought you finally climbed high enough to become someone important?”

“You are nothing but the blood bag they made for me. Without me, you would never even have beery

The crack of my father’s slap split the air.

Gina froze.

“After tonight, there is no need for our families to have any contact.”

He wrapped an arm firmly around my shoulders and walked me out without looking back.

At the Cooper estate, Spencer said nothing.

He simply guided me straight into the bathroom.

Watching his tightly pressed lips, I spoke carefully.

“Sorry. I must have embarrassed you.”

He pulled me closer.

He held me tighter.

His gaze dropped to my right foot.

After several surgeries and years of rehab, my gait now looked normal.

“Was this because of them too?”

I patted his back gently.

“It’s all in the past.”

“I have you now.”

“I let it go long ago, and I don’t want anything to do with them anymore.”

“You don’t need to go after them for me.”

Spencer stayed quiet for a long time.

Then he let out a low, “Okay.”

“If they bother you again, I will not be polite.”

He kissed my forehead.

“Five years late.”
