The Daughter They Never Wanted Chapter 04

The Daughter They Never Wanted Chapter 04

The next day, Daisy came to Kate’s place to find me.

When she saw I didn’t even have my own room, she nodded approvingly.

“Nancy, how about you beg me? Maybe I’ll talk to Mom and Dad. Let you be a daughter of the Gomez family again.”

She always did this. Steal what I loved, then make me beg her.

When I was little, she grabbed the doll my grandma gave me. I bawled and begged her immediately.

But that wasn’t enough for her. She press my forehead hard to the floor. By the time she was She just smiled and cut the doll in half before handing it back. She loved watching me fall apart.

I cried to my parents. They always said the same thing, “Daisy’s just playing with you.”

I pushed the memory away. “No thanks,” I said quietly.

For me, home wasn’t a safe place. It was hell.

Daisy didn’t get the show she wanted. She stomped off.

But I didn’t expect what came next.

She bribed Kate’s son. Told him to sneak pictures of me in the shower.

I grabbed that kid by the arm and dragged him to the Gomez house.

The dining table was laid with a huge frosted celebration cake. The whole room was warm and bright, thick with the sweet smell of vanilla.

Mom smiled. “Daisy moved up one place in the class rankings. Good job!”

Daisy pretended to be shy. “Mom, Dad, you’re so good to me. I feel bad.”

“You’re our daughter. Don’t be ridiculous.”

They laughed and cut the cake.

I stepped forward and knocked the whole thing to the floor.

“Nancy, are you insane?” Daisy shrieked.

I didn’t answer. I slapped her across the face. Then I grabbed her hair and pulled.

My parents panicked. They dug their fingers into my arms, trying to pry me off.

Kate ran out and froze when she saw her son. “Tom, what happened?”

The boy burst into tears. “Daisy… Daisy told me to take pictures of Nancy in the shower. Said she’d buy me a game skin…”

My parents went stiff. They looked at Daisy. “Daisy, did you really…”

She didn’t deny it. She just clutched at her hair where I’d yanked it, sobbing.

“Mom, Dad, it hurts so much…”

She really did cry beautifully.

I stood there, watching coldly as Mom pulled her into a hug and turned accusing eyes on me.

“Nancy! Maybe it’s a misunderstanding. Daisy is beautiful. Why would she need to take naked pictures of you?”

Pretty was Daisy’s get-out-of-jail-free card.

I laughed. I couldn’t help it.

“A misunderstanding? The chat logs are still on his phone. And you call that a misunderstanding?”

Mom kept making excuses. “So what if there are chat logs? It’s not like we haven’t seen every inch of you growing up. Even if she took a few photos, what’s the big deal?”

“Daisy was just playing with you. Why do you have to take everything so seriously?”

I never realized they could be this blind.

I came here to get some justice. To show them who Daisy really was.

But now I see. Maybe they always knew. They just didn’t care.

Maybe they had me just so Daisy would have a toy to play with.

Ice-cold rage flooded my veins, then burned white-hot. My hands didn’t shake as I pulled out my phone and dialed the police. “Hello… I want to report a crime.”
