I got home before Julian. 

I was still eating my way through the strawberry 

shortcake when the doorbell rang. 

Julian opened the door. Simon stood on the other side, 

posture ramrod straight, his face as stoic as a 

mannequin’s. “Apologies for the intrusion. Some documents need Miss Vivienne’s signature.” 

I poked my head out from behind Julian, my mouth full 

of cake. “I’m eating! Can you just look them over for me?” I put on my sweetest voice for Julian. 

Julian took the papers, giving me a hard side–eye. “Didn’t you say Simon was the only one you trusted with company stuff?” 

I blinked 

guilty, innocent, a little bit of both – and 

looped my arms around his neck. “I was listening to 

bad advice before. But you love me this much, right? Then obviously I trust you.” 

Simon read the room and stepped back. “Miss 

Vivienne, I’ll come back for them this evening.” 

[Wait… the “bad advice” she’s talking about can’t be 

US, right?] 

[In our defense, we’re not omniscient!! Blame the ML for being so good at pretending he didn’t care. He 

fooled ALL of us.] 

[Julian is literally miserable the second his girl stops paying attention to him. Born whipped. Raised whipped. I can’t with this man.] 

[OK, so if the ML and the side character are endgame… is it crazy that I kinda ship Audrey and Simon now?? She’s a genius. He’s a loyal robot. That’s weirdly perfect??]

Living that close to me, Julian was bound to notice something was off. One night, he brought it up – carefully, like he was walking on eggshells. “Baby… 

have you changed your mind?” 

“No.” No hesitation this time. 

The light went out of his eyes so fast it made my chest.

“Julian – I mean there’s nothing to change. It’s always been you. It’s only ever been you.” 

His breath caught. Then the words came out like he’d been holding them in for years. “Vivienne. Marry me.” 

The question slipped out before I could stop it. “Can we 

actually do that?” 

The comments had been clear – the side character and 

the ML weren’t supposed to end up together. The story 

wouldn’t allow it. 

Julian’s voice dropped to something barely above al whisper – raw, stripped bare, like he was staking 

everything on this moment. “Every time I see Simon, all I can think about is how close you came to marrying him. And it makes me want to tear myself apart.” 

“Baby, please. Make it real. Make me yours – officially.” 

[Love really does humble the proudest men, huh.] 

[We should’ve figured it out ages ago. A man like the ML doesn’t just LET someone bother him into a 

relationship. He wanted to get caught. He’s been a goner for her this whole time.]
