The Child I Carry Is Not Your Heir Chapter 05

I’d never set that ridiculous nickname myself.

I’d originally saved him under his real name, but he’d altered it to Snuggle Muffin&Love Muffin without asking permission.

Given his line of work, I’d never pictured him picking such soft, affectionate contact labels.

I smiled softly. “He’s the father of my baby…”

My sentence stalled mid-breath as a slim, stunning woman stepped into the hospital room.

Jay shoved me roughly aside and shot upright to greet her. “What brings you here? I told everyone I was visiting an old friend today.”

I bit back fresh pain and lifted my head to meet a breathtakingly beautiful face.

It was Yvonne.

In an instant, all eyes drifted away from me, with Jay and Mrs Miller rushing over to fuss over their guest.

Only my mother stayed rooted beside my bed.

She remained glued to my phone screen, darting frequent confused glances my way, her expression stunned enough to suggest she’d just witnessed a miracle.

Our mother-daughter bond let me read her unspoken thought clear as day: Are you really dating this man?

I gave a quiet nod of confirmation.

Meanwhile, the gorgeous unexpected visitor Yvonne flashed a bright grin and addressed me directly.

“Jay mentioned your hospital stay. We’re acquaintances, and you’ve been his close friend for years, so I couldn’t skip stopping by.”

I smiled and invited her to sit and chat.

Her gaze fell on the mountain of baby gear by the bed, and she feigned surprise. “Oh no, I forgot to bring gifts. I’ll make it up on my next visit.”

Jay jumped in immediately. “I bought all of these, so you don’t need to waste your spare time shopping for presents.”

He rushed to amend his words right after. “Grace asked me to pick everything up, otherwise I’d never have gone out shopping for infant items.”

Mrs Miller quickly chimed in to back him up. “Our Jay’s always kind-hearted, Yvonne, don’t misinterpret

things.”

Yvonne tossed him a playful, coquettish glance.

All irritation melted from his features, his tone softening completely to coax her. “I’ll definitely bring you along next time. I didn’t want to interrupt your piano practice.”

They looked effortlessly perfect together, a handsome man paired with an elegant beauty.

I drifted back to the memory of their first meeting.

I’d tagged along to watch Jay’s ball practice, only for him to mock my terrible playing skills.

While chasing a loose stray ball, they’d stumbled across Yvonne practicing piano beside the music room

window.

That single glance sealed his heart, and he’d shamelessly chased her for years on end.

Proud as a regal white swan, Yvonne left for overseas university and vanished entirely from his life.

No living man could turn down his long-sought childhood crush once she moved back to town.

It explained why the once notoriously reckless Jay had settled down fast enough to lock in an engagement.

As for my mom? Good grief, she was scrolling through private chat logs between my partner and me.

No amount of closeness gave her the right to invade my personal privacy like this.

A handful of days later, news of my pregnancy and hospital discharge spread throughout our neighborhood. Childhood pals and former school friends banded together to throw a casual get-together party.

“Double celebrations! Grace’s expecting a baby and Jay’s engaged to his dream girl Yvonne, we absolutely have to celebrate!”

My closest friend Chloe stuck faithfully by my side the entire night, keeping a protective eye to stop anyone from tiring me out.

Jay paraded Yvonne around like his most prized treasure, soaking in every envious stare from the crowd. Everyone else, meanwhile, whispered curiously, desperate to uncover the true identity of my baby’s father.

The group swapped old stories and tallied up classmates who’d failed to show up.

Someone suddenly slapped their forehead.

“Wait a second, one former classmate’s still missing! Some chubby kid got stuck in traffic, what was his

name again?”

“Sam, I think it was him! I remember he confessed his crush to Grace ages ago and ran home crying once

she turned him down!”

Another guest teased me with a laugh. “Was he out of his mind confessing to you? He transferred schools

shortly afterward; his folks must’ve spotted how odd he’d gotten.”

“Grace, is your baby actually his?”

Loud peals of laughter filled the room, yet I kept silent and made no reply.

Jay’s brows pinched tight on instinct.

“Is picking fun at a pregnant woman really amusing? Besides, Grace never had anything with him, the baby’s

real dad is-”
