The Broke, Mute Boy I Saved Was a Bored Billionaire Chapter 06

At Cobalt Ridge Lodge, Bastien lounged on a sofa, checking his phone every few minutes.

The message he had sent Tressa was already two hours old.

She still had not answered.

Was she angry?

She had attacked Veda first. Falling into the snow hollow had been her own fault.

What did she have to be angry about?

Irritation tightening his jaw, Bastien sent another message.

Bastien: [Tress, stop being childish. You’re older than the rest of us. Don’t embarrass yourself in front of everyone.]

After a moment, he added another.

Bastien: [I’ve saved enough for Iceland. Come apologize, and we’ll go after New Year’s.]

He waited, forcing himself to be patient.

Nothing.

“Unbelievable,” he muttered. “I’ve spoiled her.”

He shoved the phone into his pocket and lit a cigarette, his expression turning cold.

Veda leaned closer. “Bas, is Tressa still not here?”

One of their friends craned his neck toward the entrance. “Think she’s throwing a tantrum and skipping the party?”

Bastien exhaled a stream of smoke. “Can none of you wait five minutes?”

The others exchanged awkward looks, confused by his sudden temper.

Veda wrapped both hands around his arm. “Bas, you remember what you promised, right? Once Tressa gets here, you tell her who you really are.”

“And then we go public.” Her smile widened. “I can’t wait to see her face.”

Bastien gave a distracted hum.

His fingers brushed the envelope inside his jacket pocket. The cashier’s check inside was made out for $75,000.

That was more than enough to repay everything Tressa had spent on him.

If she apologized and behaved herself, he might even give her more.

A cheap woman like Tressa had probably never seen that much money in her life.

The party was halfway over, and she still had not appeared.

Bastien grew more restless by the minute.

One of the guys finally said, “What if she got hurt in that hollow and couldn’t climb out?”

Veda laughed softly. “It wasn’t that deep. She could’ve gotten out if she wanted to.”

The others quickly agreed.

“She’s probably just trying to make Bas feel guilty.”

“Exactly. Keep ignoring her, Rothwell.”

Bastien set his glass down with a sharp crack.

“I’m going outside for a cigarette.”

Veda stood. “I’ll come with you.”

“No.”

He waved her off and walked out alone.

Wind tore through the open corridor, carrying the brutal cold of the mountain with it.

Bastien pulled up Tressa’s contact and tried to video-call her.

No answer.

He checked the time.

Nine o’clock.

The temperature had dropped well below freezing, and unease finally began to creep in.

What if she had injured her leg when she fell?

What if her phone had broken and she had no way to call for help?

Bastien decided to go find her himself.

It was the least he could do before ending things for good.
