The Blue Rejection That Ended My Marriage Chapter 07

The Blue Rejection That Ended My Marriage Chapter 07

I did see Sloane once before the hearing.

By then, I had been discharged and was staying with Nathan. He wasn’t home when Sloane arrived,

her arms full of bags and a pair of crutches.

“Elliot, these are for you.”

Her voice was low. The arrogance she used to carry was gone.

“What color did these get?”

Her face went pale.

“Don’t say it like that.”

“But that’s what you did, isn’t it?”

My own voice sounded strangely flat.

Then she asked, “How are you feeling?”

“Sorry to disappoint you. The surgery was a success.”

She was silent for several seconds.

“I didn’t sign the divorce agreement.”

“Then we’ll let the court decide. Either way, it ends the same.”

Her lips trembled.

“Elliot, I reactivated your card. I won’t let Miles handle your spending requests anymore.”

“I’ll fire him. Can you give me one more chance?”

I swallowed my medication and looked up at her.

“No.”

“But what about everything we’ve had all these years?”

“So now you care about us? Where were you when I was in the hospital?”

She swallowed.

“Miles lied to me. I really didn’t know.”

“Did he lie to you about the design too?”

“Did he trick you into using my mother’s studio to threaten me?”

“Or did he somehow trick you into approving sixty grand for his car?”

With every question, more color drained from her face. By the time I finished, she was white as a

sheet.

After a long silence, she spoke again.

“Elliot, after everything we’ve shared, are you really going to take this all the way to court?”

I looked at her.

“I’m not making a scene. I’m just taking back what’s mine.”

“It was mine all along.”

Her phone suddenly rang.

It was Miles.

She glanced at me, then answered anyway.

His accusing voice came through the phone.

“Sloane, there’s a hold on my car!”

“And I got a termination notice. How can you do this to me?”

Sloane didn’t waver.

“That car was bought with marital funds. I had no right to give that money away to you.”

“And if it weren’t for Elliot, you never would’ve gotten into the company in the first place.”

Miles’s voice started to crack.

“But you were the one who said that if Elliot was left with lasting complications, he’d be stuck at home with his whole life revolving around you!”

“You said he was easy to control, that he’d never leave, and that you’d take care of everything. Now you want to pretend none of this had anything to do with you? Not happening!”

Maybe Sloane wanted to prove to me that she was done with Miles, because she had left the call on

speaker.

The part about leaving me with lasting complications came through loud and clear.

I looked up sharply and met Sloane’s bloodless face.

So even my condition had been part of her plan.

When the call ended, she tried to explain, but I cut her off.

“So you planned this from the beginning?”

Her voice was hoarse.

“I just wanted you at home supporting me.‘

I laughed.

“Supporting you and Miles?”

Her shoulders sagged.

“I really never thought you’d divorce me.”

“Because you thought I was easy to control and would never leave?”

I didn’t wait for an answer.

I got up, walked to the door, and opened it.

“Then you were wrong. Get out. I’ll see you in court.”

Her steps were unsteady as she left.

Once the door closed behind her, whatever I had once felt for her was gone.
