The Billionaire’s Wife Who Couldn’t Afford Anything Chapter 07 Life After Leaving Him

After putting on his tiny helmet, Noah climbed onto the back of my scooter and waved goodbye to his little friends with obvious reluctance.

The town itself wasn’t very large.

It only took around ten minutes for us to ride home.

Five minutes downstairs from my apartment was the little breakfast diner I now owned.

When I first bought the place, the previous owner had questioned me repeatedly, clearly unconvinced that a young woman like me could survive work this exhausting.

“I used to work three jobs at once in the city,” I’d told him back then with a laugh.

“I even ran a small bakery café before.

“After I had my son, the expenses got too high, so I sold it.”

Only after hearing that did the old owner finally agree to transfer the business to me.

The diner closed every afternoon at two o’clock sharp.

I didn’t hire any employees.

A small business like this barely made enough money as it was, and physically, I couldn’t handle working from dawn until midnight anymore.

“Mom!”

Noah kicked his legs happily while sitting on the couch.

“What are we eating tonight?”

I tied my apron tighter and smiled toward him.

“How about cold sesame noodles?

“They’re perfect for hot weather.”

Noah immediately threw both hands into the air dramatically.

“Yessss!”

Then he happily ran back toward the television to wait for Power Rangers to start.

A little while later, he suddenly shouted excitedly from the living room:

“Mom! Hurry up!

“Someone we know is on TV!

“It’s that fake-smiley lady!”

I poked my head out from the kitchen, not even having time to untie my apron before Noah dragged me toward the television.

The evening business news was currently playing.

“Breaking news. Lowell Paper & Packaging has officially declared bankruptcy.

“Authorities report that the company is under investigation for multiple crimes, including bribery, corruption scandals involving sexual favors, and large-scale tax evasion.

“The individuals involved, including Chairman Lowell, his wife Lily Lowell, and their daughter Vanessa Lowell, have all been formally arrested.

“The investigation is ongoing.”

On the screen, Vanessa Lowell looked completely disheveled.

Her hair was messy, her makeup smeared, and police officers were dragging her out of a luxury mansion in handcuffs while reporters chased after her.

“We’re not bankrupt!

“The Lowell family isn’t finished!

She screamed hysterically toward the cameras.

“I just secured a new investment!

“One billion dollars! The Hawthorne family promised to invest in us!

“Let me go!

“I’m a socialite! Do you know who I am?!

“Who the hell dares touch me?!”

I quietly watched the screen for a few seconds before turning back toward the kitchen to continue kneading dough.

Did seeing her downfall feel satisfying?

Maybe a little.

After all, Ryan bullying Noah definitely hadn’t happened without Vanessa encouraging it behind the scenes.

But more than satisfaction, I mostly felt complicated emotions.

A person who once acted so arrogantly and untouchable had fallen into this miserable state overnight.

As for Ryan Lowell…

That child had already been spoiled beyond repair.

Now that his family had collapsed too, life ahead of him probably wouldn’t be easy.

By the time two episodes of Power Rangers ended, I had already finished making dinner.

I carried the cold noodles over to the table and called Noah to eat.

We had barely taken two bites when the doorbell suddenly rang.

I frowned slightly.

It was just Noah and me living here now, and unfortunately, the peephole on the apartment door had been broken for weeks.

So I could only raise my voice cautiously from inside.

“Who is it?”

The answer came almost immediately.

And the voice…

was painfully familiar.

“Evie.

“It’s me.

“Adrian.”

After I let Adrian Hawthorne inside, Noah Hawthorne became so nervous he didn’t even dare touch his noodles anymore.

He quietly tugged on my sleeve and whispered in a trembling voice:

“Mom…

“Should we call the police?”

His eyes were full of fear as he glanced toward Adrian.

“Is he gonna drag you away to take more blood again?

“I’m scared…”

The apartment was tiny.

There was no way Adrian could pretend not to hear him.

A painful look instantly flashed across Adrian’s face.

He subconsciously reached out, wanting to touch Noah’s hair.

But Noah immediately dodged him and hid behind me in fear.

Then, after hesitating for two seconds, Noah suddenly stepped back in front of me protectively instead.

“No!”

His little voice shook badly.

“You can’t take Mommy’s blood anymore!

“Mommy already works really hard every day.

“If she loses more blood, she’ll faint while kneading dough again!

“Then Uncle Daniel will have to carry her back to the hospital!”

He bit his lip hard before lifting his head bravely.

“If you really need blood…
