When the guards dragged Clarissa into the study, she still didn’t know what was happening.

“Edward Whitmore deported for economic crimes. Returned to Andara this morning.”

Ms. Hayes came in hurriedly, holding a letter.

“Madam, it’s Lucas’s final note… would you like to read it?”

The room fell silent. All eyes turned to me.

Damien frowned but didn’t stop her—

He simply held my hand in silent support.

I gently shook my head, completely calm.

“No need.”

Ms. Hayes nodded and quietly stepped away.

Damien turned off the screen, eyes filled with tenderness and pride.

He kissed my forehead.

“It’s all over.”

I leaned into his chest, smiling as I looked at our sleeping daughter.

“No. It’s the first page… of a life I write myself.”

I was no longer someone’s pampered canary.

I was a mother.
