The Belated Bride: Becoming My Own Muse Chapter 24

The Belated Bride: Becoming My Own Muse Chapter 24

I was just about to speak when Christian’s voice cut through first.

“Enough.”

Bianca froze.

Christian looked at her.

“You didn’t come here to apologize. You came to force her into forgiving you.”

The color drained from Bianca’s face.

“Chris, I’m not—”

“You know perfectly well whether you are or not.”

It was the first time Christian had publicly undercut her act.

Bianca’s tears surged up instantly.

“So now, for her sake, that’s what you think of me?”

Christian didn’t evade her tears.

“It’s not for her sake.”

He said, “It’s because I’m finally seeing things clearly.”

Bianca shook her head, looking like she’d been dealt a devastating blow.

The media cameras clicked with even more fervor.

I watched all of this, and my heart stayed completely still.

In the past, I might have felt a flicker of vindication.

Now, all I felt was that it was a waste of my time.

I raised a hand and signaled the event staff.

“The show starts in five minutes. Anyone not essential to the production, please clear backstage.”

Bianca’s face shifted again.

“Claire. I’ve apologized like this, and you’re still throwing me out?”

I looked at her.

“You didn’t come here to apologize.”

I pulled out my phone and tapped play on the audio file.

Bianca’s voice rang out from the speaker.

“If we don’t cover it, so everyone can see ‘May I finally become my own bride’ when the photos come out? That would be a slap in Chris’s face.”

“Mrs. Van Ness? She won’t be for very long.”

The murmured chatter around us exploded.

The media cameras were practically shoving into Bianca’s face.

She stood frozen, utterly rigid.

The assistant was standing at the back of the crowd, head lowered, shoulders trembling faintly.

Bianca turned and saw her. Her gaze instantly turned sharp as glass.

“It was you?”

The young assistant raised her head. Her face was ashen, but she still spoke.

“Bee. You were the one who told me to cover the embroidery. You were also the one who said Mrs. Van Ness wouldn’t kick up a real fuss. Then you told me to take the fall alone. Said all the contract penalties would come out of my salary.”
