The Baby Couldn’t Tie Him, The Lie Did Chapter 08

The Baby Couldn’t Tie Him, The Lie Did Chapter 08

Meanwhile, in the Republic of Kairos, Melanie pushed open the apartment door after ending

the call.

“You heard all that?” she asked.

I nodded, then smiled faintly.

“Melanie… why didn’t you agree to his offer?”

She casually dragged over a chair and sat beside the window.

For a moment, she didn’t answer.

Then suddenly, she asked, “Do you know why I helped you?”

I shook my head.

“My mother used to be just like you,” she said quietly. “The difference is… she wasn’t as

strong.”

She stared out the window, her tone calm and detached.

“My father dumped her and chose to marry into the Vance family for money. When we were barely surviving, Mrs. Vance brought us back into the family.”

A bitter smile touched her lips.

“Families like theirs are rotten to the core. My mom died a few years later. As for me…” She laughed softly. “An illegitimate daughter wasn’t a threat to her precious little Audrey, so keeping me around was useful. One day, they could marry me off for business too.”

She didn’t continue.

But I already understood.

She hated the Vance family.

And naturally, she had no reason to treat Julian kindly either.

Just then, her phone buzzed again.

Melanie glanced at the screen once before scoffing and tossing the phone toward me.

But the moment I saw the messages, I froze.

They were from Audrey.

[Bitch! Both of you are disgusting!]

[Do you both get off on stealing other people’s men? Did you help her because she reminds

you of your dead mother?!]

A few seconds later, another message appeared.

[Please… I’m begging you. Tell her to give Julian back to me, okay? The baby is actually hers.

Julian lied to me. He lied to me!]

I sat there on the bed for a long time, staring blankly at the screen.

Slowly, my hand moved to my stomach.

“The baby…”

Beside me, even Melanie looked stunned.

At that moment, Mom walked into the room, worry written all over her face.

“If you’re still uncertain,” she said gently, “we can do a paternity test.”

I nodded.

Then shook my head.

I was just thinking that after six years together… maybe I had never truly known Julian at all.

Right then, the apartment doorbell rang.

Melanie got up to answer it.

But the second the door opened, Julian shoved his way inside.

The moment he saw me, he strode quickly toward the bed.

“Vivienne, why are you being so stubborn? If you’d just endured another six months…”

The sharp crash of shattering glass cut him off.

I slowly lowered my hand after stopping my mother from throwing a second cup at him.

Julian stood frozen.

I looked straight at him.

“Julian, I’m not your possession. The moment you betrayed me, there was no future left for

us.”

He hurried toward me anxiously, but my mother immediately blocked his path.

“Vivienne, none of it was real,” he said frantically. “The baby is yours. I never switched

anything. I only said those things to keep Audrey under control.”

“Don’t you understand? Give me another six months and I could’ve completely secured my

position in the Everett family. Then you would’ve become Mrs. Everett.”

“Julian,” I interrupted softly.

I bent down and picked up a broken shard from the shattered ceramic cup on the floor.

“This cup is broken now. Even if you glue it back together, it’ll never be the same cup again.”

But Julian stubbornly crouched down and began gathering the shattered pieces with his bare

hands.

“I can fix it,” he muttered. “I know I can…”

A sharp edge sliced across his fingers, drawing blood.

But watching him like that stirred absolutely nothing inside me anymore.

“Stop acting like everything is still under your control, Julian,” I said coldly. “The moment you

stood in that police station and admitted you were Audrey’s husband, we were over.”

“You say you never lied to me. You say the baby is mine. But for your own ambitions, you

kept playing both sides between us.”

I opened my phone album and pulled up the medical report.

“The doctor said there’s nothing wrong with my body.”

Julian stared blankly at the screen in my hand.

He wanted to explain.

His lips moved slightly.

But no words came out.

I took the phone back and returned the five hundred thousand dollars Audrey had transferred

to me before, sending every cent back to her.

Julian still looked like he wanted to say something.

But before he could, my mother grabbed a broom and chased him straight out of the

apartment.

This time, Julian didn’t resist.

Right before the door slammed shut, though, he shouted stubbornly from outside:

“Vivienne, wait for me! I know this is because of Audrey! I’ll handle everything, okay?! Just

wait for me!”
