At the front door, I carried my suitcase down the steps. 

“Mia!” Julian ran after me, fresh out of the shower, his hair still dripping. “Where are you going with all that luggage? Didn’t I tell you to just stay at a hotel for one night?” 

I turned around. “Lila said my things are dirty. I thought I should take them to the hotel.” 

I knew he wouldn’t ask Lila. She was asleep, and he wouldn’t wake her over something so small. 

He sighed. “Fine. Then… come back in the morning. No more drama. Let’s just pretend this never happened.” 

I gave him a faint smile. “Okay.” 

My first lie to him. And my last. 

I walked out of the pack house and into the cold night air. 

The hotel was cold and lifeless. But there were no hateful people here. I booked a long stay. 

My plan was already in motion. I had applied to several graduate schools in London, and the deadlines hadn’t passed yet. So I buried myself in application materials and writing my thesis. 

At the same time, I found a witch living on the edge of the city. She gave me two potions. One for the pup in my belly. One for my wolf. 

“Drink this, and your wolf will stop hurting over that Alpha.” 

I drank without hesitation. 

While I recovered, I got two messages. 

Ethan: [Don’t be like this, Mia. I’ll raise the pup. Give me a chance.] 

Me: [It’s done. Send the medical fees to this account.] 

He sent fifty thousand dollars. I blocked him. 

Then Alpha Sterling transferred two million dollars into my 

account. 

[Mia, we let you down. This is what we owed your father. Use it to build a good life.] 

I just stared at the screen, remembering how they watched me 

suffer. 

I deserved that money. 

I didn’t see Julian again until graduation day. 

He showed up on my campus, looking terrible. “Mia, when are you coming back? You can’t just live in a hotel forever.” 

“You should be happy,” I said. “You’ll never have to see me 

again.” 

He flinched. “Lila was right. You’re just trying to get back at me. How pathetic.” 

“Mia, where else can you go? You have no pack, no family. You have nothing except us.” 

It was the most absurd thing I had ever heard. I could barely breathe, and my wolf snarled in rage. 

“Julian, my father died saving yours, and you’ve used that to humiliate me the whole time.” I threw my water bottle at him. “Get out! You’re all trash! One day, you’ll pay for this!” 

He cursed and left. 

I collapsed to the ground, shaking. But I got back up. I told myself my father would have wanted me to keep going. 

Soon, my acceptance letter arrived. London. I was going. 

Before that, Ethan found me again. He showed me Lila’s social media posts. She and Julian were officially together. 

Luna Sterling approved. They looked like the perfect Alpha and future Luna. 

In the past, that would have destroyed me. Now, my heart felt hollow and empty. No pain. 

“See?” Ethan said. “He’s moved on. You can move on with me. 

I’d make a better mate than him.” 

I looked at him. “Ethan, do you think I need an Alpha? Sleeping with you was a mistake. You were… fine. If it’s just casual, that’s fine. But a relationship? No, thanks.” 

He barely contained his anger. “You’re the first woman who’s 

ever talked to me like that.” 

“I won’t be the last,” I said, and walked away.
