Andrew and the others came to Los Angeles on the third day after the semester started.

That afternoon, I had just walked out of an academic building when Evelyn linked her arm through

mine and said she would take me to a taco place near campus that night.

From a distance, I saw several familiar figures standing near the edge of campus.

Evelyn noticed me stop and asked quietly, “Do you know them?”

I nodded.

“I used to.”

The moment Andrew saw me, he strode over.

“Jade Schmidt, are you done with this tantrum yet?”

There were plenty of students around, and several of them turned to look when they heard him.

I stopped walking.

“You came all the way to Los Angeles just to ask me that?”

Andrew frowned.

“You came here without saying a word. You left every group chat, blocked us, ignored our calls, and refused to answer our messages.”

“Do you have any idea how long we’ve been looking for you?”

I looked at him steadily.

“Did you ask me before you decided to go to Columbia?”

He froze.

“Did you tell me before you took Delilah to see the bioluminescent waves?”

“Did you ask me before you gave her Mom’s necklace?”

Nicolas stepped forward.

“Jade, we came here because we wanted to talk this through properly.”

I asked, “Is this what you call talking properly?”

Sue could not hold back anymore.

“Jade, Andrew really was worried about you. He didn’t sleep at all the night after you left.”

I smiled.

“Did he stay up all night when I had a 104 degree fever too?”

Sue’s face immediately went pale.

Delilah stepped out from behind them just then.

Her eyes were red, and her voice was soft.

“Jade, I’m sorry. This is all because of me. If it weren’t for me, you never would have fought with

Andrew and the others like this.”

She lowered her head as if she had suffered some terrible grievance.

“If you hate me, I can leave. Just don’t throw away your family because of me.”

Andrew frowned at once.

“None of this is your fault.”

Nicolas also shifted half a step toward her without thinking.

Evelyn suddenly stepped in front of me.

“If you want to argue, take it somewhere else. This is a college campus, not your living room.”

Andrew looked at her.

“This is family business.”

I said quietly, “Not anymore.”

“Andrew Schmidt, the moment you gave Mom’s necklace to Delilah, this stopped being a family.”

Whispers began spreading through the crowd around us.

Delilah hurried to explain.

“It’s not what you think. Andrew only said I could borrow the necklace for a few days. I didn’t know

it meant that much to you…”

“My name is engraved on the back of the pendant. Did you not see it when you wore it?”

Delilah’s lips trembled.

She said nothing.

Andrew’s expression turned grim.

“Jade, I admit I was wrong about the necklace. I was already planning to give it back But you can t just disappear and cut us off over that.”

I looked at him and found the whole thing absurd.

“I can’t do it over that?”

I pulled up the screenshot of the old poll.

“What about this? Is this enough?”

Andrew went completely still.

Nicolas instinctively looked away.

Tears immediately fell from Sue’s eyes.

“Jade, back then we only…”

I cut her off.

“You only assumed I’d forgive you no matter what?”

“You only thought that because my parents were gone and I had nowhere else to go, I’d still be waiting for you no matter who you chose?”

Sue could not answer.

I looked at Andrew.

“When all of you voted for her, did you ever remember that I’m your sister?”

The color slowly drained from his face.

“When you gave Mom’s necklace to her, did you ever remember that Mom left it to me?”
