Soul-Extraction: Reborn as the Luna Queen Chapter 06

Soul-Extraction: Reborn as the Luna Queen Chapter 06

His grip was crushing. I felt the bones in my wrist grind together.

But he couldn’t hide the shock in his eyes.

“You…”

He dropped his voice and leaned in, close enough that I could feel the threat radiating off him.

“Who exactly are you?”

I held his stare, my expression perfectly still. Then I let a slow, deliberate smile form.

“Why are you so nervous, my King?”

“I was only helping you suppress the ancient wolf curse raging inside you.”

“Your soul-sealing relic is broken, after all.”

“These past few days must have been… unpleasant.”

Lucien’s gaze didn’t move. It pressed into me like he was trying to crack me open and read whatever

was inside.

That’s when Mira, forgotten off to the side, screamed.

“Alpha King!”

“Don’t let her fool you!”

“She’s a monster. A witch!”

Jealousy was eating Mira alive.

Adrian, her prize and her trophy, was drifting around the room like a stray dog. And now this Nova

had appeared out of nowhere, outshining every woman in the room, standing beside the lycan king

like she belonged there.

She lunged at me, grabbing for my

“She’s not Nova!”

dress.

“She’s something dead that crawled into someone else’s body!”

The last word had barely left her mouth when the lights in the hall flickered. A wave of dead, frozen

air rolled through the room.

My eyes flicked to the space behind her.

The curse wraith from last night was draped across the crystal chandelier above us, watching her

with hollow, hungry eyes.

Mira’s rage had torn her defenses wide open. Her aura flickered like a candle in a storm.

The chandelier ripped free from the ceiling.

Straight down. Right for Mira.

Mira screamed and crumpled, too frozen to move.

Adrian stumbled back. Not toward her. Away.

The chandelier would have ended her.

I didn’t let it. A flick of mooncraft left my fingertips, invisible and precise.

It shifted the chandelier’s path just enough.

I didn’t want her to die that easily.

Crystal exploded across the floor.

The chandelier hit the marble inches from Mira’s feet. Shards of crystal raked across her face and

arms.

“Ah!”

“My face!”

“My face!”

Mira clamped both hands over her face, already streaked with cuts, and writhed on the floor.

Guests scattered. And the whispers turned vicious.

“What is wrong with the Blackwood girl?”

“Every time she shows up, something terrible happens.”

“I heard curse wraiths have been following the Blackwood pack around.”

“Stay away from her.”

Adrian stared down at Mira on the floor. Disgust won out over everything else. He didn’t reach for

her. All he saw was how humiliating she looked.

He turned to leave. Pack enforcers were already waiting by the doors.

“Adrian.”

“You’re under investigation for the use of substandard materials in the south district project. Three,

people are dead.”

“Come with us.”

Adrian’s face went gray. The enforcers didn’t wait for an answer. They took him.

Hotel security hauled Mira off the floor and carried her to the pack hospital like something scraped

off the marble.

And just like that, the show was over.

I stayed where I was and watched them both disappear through separate doors.

I felt nothing.

“Nicely done, Nova.”

Lucien was behind me. I hadn’t heard him move.

“You deflected the chandelier.”

“So which is it? You didn’t want her dead, or you wanted something worse than death?”

I turned to face him and those eyes that looked like they could see through walls.

“You must be mistaken, my King.”

“I’m just a girl who recently woke up from a long sleep.”

“What could I possibly do?”

Lucien’s mouth curved. Then he closed the distance between us, his lips near my ear.

“Selene.”

“Did you really think a new body would fool me? I’d know your mooncraft signature anywhere.”

My blood went cold. He knew.

I pulled back half a step, no more, and let every trace of softness drain from my face.

“My King.”

“Be careful what you say.’

Lucien didn’t push. He rolled the obsidian beads between his fingers, unhurried.

“Relax.”

“I won’t expose you.”

“If anything, I should be thanking you.”

“The Blackwood pack is blind. They had a weapon like you and tossed it out with the trash.”

“But me? I’ve always had a weakness for wild things with claws.”

He slipped a black-and-gold card into my palm.

“My private line.”

“Nova.”

“141 be seeing you.”

I watched him walk away and felt my fingers tighten around the card.

More dangerous than I’d thought.

But so what?

I wasn’t the girl people pushed around anymore.
