Sorry, Alpha. You’re Not His Dad Anymore Chapter 05

Sorry, Alpha. You’re Not His Dad Anymore Chapter 05

our first night away from Blackthorn, my body fought desperately to go

back.

The rejected mate bond felt like countless hooks buried in my bones. Cold sweat soaked the sheets while Lyla battered against the walls of my mind, searching for the black wolf she had

waited 6 years to have.

I hated that she still wanted him.

I hated the old me even more.

At 2 a.m., I was too sick to stand.

Then Rowan’s voice came from outside the door.

“Aria, I brought a healer.”

The door didn’t open.

Even with my scent flooding the entire hallway from the pain, the Lycan King, a man who wielded

absolute power, didn’t enter without permission.

“May I come in?”

Damian had never asked that question.

Whenever he needed me to soothe his rut, he ordered me to open the door. Then he left before

dawn, reminding me not to let anyone catch his scent on me.

Bracing myself against the wall, I rasped, “Yes.”

After Rowan entered, he put medicine and water within my reach, then retreated to the window at

the far side of the room.

“The rejection reaction will last 3 to 7 days. You can use my Lycan scent to suppress it, or you can

take medicine.”

“What’s the price?”

“There isn’t one.”

I looked at him in disbelief.

Rowan added evenly, “The North spent 3 years persuading a chief healer to rebuild its medical

center. I don’t want her dying on her

Mini Pass is on, enjoy.

For the first time, I understood that respect didn’t have to be gentle.

It could come from a man more dangerous and more powerful than Damian, a man who still chose

to return control of my body to me.

In the end, I chose the medicine.

Rowan showed no disappointment. Nor did he mark the room with his scent.

He stayed outside my door and didn’t leave all night.

Near dawn, Theo screamed in the room next door.

I rushed in and found him curled on the bed, silver light flashing erratically through his gray eyes

A pup’s wolf usually awakened around the age of 10.

But the rupture of our mate bond had disturbed his paternal bloodline, forcing the young wolf inside him to struggle awake far too soon.

“Mom, it hurts.”

I opened the emergency kit, but weakness made my hands shake uncontrollably.

Rowan stopped in the doorway.

“Do you need me?”

I nodded.

He still didn’t touch Theo right away. Instead, he crouched beside the bed.

“Theo, I’m going to put my hand on your back. Is that all right?”

Theo opened his frightened eyes.

“Will you make my wolf obey you?”

“No,” Rowan said. “I’ll ask him what he needs.”

Theo hesitated for a long moment before giving a tiny nod.

Silver Lycan power flowed from Rowan’s palm into his body. It didn’t feel like an Alpha’s command.

It felt like a steady anchor.

Theo’s breathing gradually eased,

At the same time, Rowan’s face grew steadily paler.

“You can stop.” I grasped his wrist. “He’s stable.”

“1 more minute.”

He waited until Theo was completely asleep.

Theo’s hand closed unconsciously around his sleeve.

“Will you leave for another pup like Alpha did?”

Rowan was silent for a moment.

“Only if you let me go.”

Theo didn’t let go.

When morning came, Rowan was still sitting on the carpet, letting Theo hold on to him.

Meanwhile, Damian had reached the Northern border.

His roar carried past the guards and into the stronghold.

“Aria, give me back my son!”

When I entered the courtyard, six Northern guards were holding him outside the warding barrier.

Damian looked like a different man after only 1 night.

His usually immaculate black shirt was covered in wrinkles, and almost no sanity remained in his

bloodshot eyes.

He caught Rowan’s healing scent on Theo, and his claws instantly pierced his fingertips.

“He touched my pup!”

Standing behind me, Rowan said calmly, “I treated a sick child.”

“He has a father!”

“Where was that father last night?”

Damian looked past him at me.

“Aria, bring Theo home. I’ll hold his moon-naming ceremony tonight, publicly declare him

Blackthorn’s sole heir, and give him his rightful place.”

Those were the very words I had once longed to hear.

They were 6 years too late.

“He doesn’t want an inheritance.”

“Then what does he want?”

The question was so absurd that I almost laughed.

“He only wanted you to call him your son.”

Damian opened his mouth.

Only then did he realize he had never once called Theo that.

The door behind us opened.

Theo stood on the steps with a blanket wrapped around his shoulders.

Damian’s voice softened immediately.

“Theo, come home with Dad.”

“Did you give my room to the baby?”

“No one can replace you.”

Theo frowned.

“You already let her live there.”

He didn’t understand power or inheritance, but he understood who had taken his bed and who

wore the moonstone that should have been his.

Damian had no answer.

Theo turned and walked back inside.

Rowan didn’t stop him or seize the opportunity to lift him into his arms.

He merely closed the door behind Theo.

Damian stood beyond the barrier and watched his son trust another Alpha not to chase him down

and force him to turn back.
