I was just about to hit Send when Noah’s voice suddenly echoed through my mind.

He was using our mind link.

“Anna. It’s raining outside.”

His wolf spoke right after him.

“If she comes to pick us up, we’ll make up.”

Normally, no matter how late it was, how exhausted I felt, or how far away he was, I’d have gone to get him without a second thought.

But not this time.

“It’s just a drizzle. I’m tired today. I don’t feel like coming to get you. Just come back on your own.”

A moment later, the front door opened.

“What are you standing there for?” Noah asked.

His arm rested around Faye’s shoulders as he carefully wiped the rain from her hair.

“Go get the hair dryer. Don’t just stand there like you have no common sense.”

Faye tugged gently at his sleeve and gave me an apologetic smile.

“I’m sorry, Luna. Alpha has always been blunt with his words. There’s no need to bother. I’m fine.”

“We trained too late at the training grounds, and my place is too far. I was worried I wouldn’t make tomorrow’s tournament, so I hope it’s okay if I stay here tonight.”

“I heard you skipped dinner, so I picked up a sandwich for you. I hope you don’t mind.”

I forced a smile.

“Thanks. I’m not hungry.”

Without warning, the paper bag hit the floor.

The sandwiches spilled out and fell apart.

“Anna, what’s wrong with you?” Noah’s eyes turned icy as he grabbed my wrist.

“Faye was only trying to be nice. What the hell is your problem?”

Faye’s eyes immediately reddened.

“Alpha, it was my fault…”

Her voice trembled, thick with feigned hurt.

Noah lost his temper. He shoved me away.

I collapsed onto the floor.

After coughing twice, I let out a quiet laugh.

“Noah, we’ve been together for seven years. Don’t you remember my allergies?”

He froze. Then his expression hardened even further.

He stomped on the sandwich, then kicked the mangled mess right into my face.

“Anna, you’re so damn dramatic. You’re not that fragile. You don’t need to make a scene over every little thing.”

“If you’re hungry, eat what’s in front of you. You’re just looking for something to complain about.”

The sandwich didn’t hurt. My eyes did.

Then his wolf spoke again, “We knew Anna didn’t want to eat the leftovers from the feast, so we asked Faye to bring her a sandwich.”

“Why can’t Anna ever accept that we’re trying to be good to her?”

“Noah… even I’m starting to wonder if she’s really fit to be Luna.”

I ignored every accusation.

Using the couch for support, I pulled myself up and silently packed my suitcase faster.

Noah clenched his fists and took two steps toward me.

Then Faye gasped.

“Alpha… isn’t that the crown you made for my birthday? How did it break?”

Noah’s eyes landed on the shattered moonstone crown.

The pressure rolling off him was so overwhelming it felt like he wanted to force me to my knees.

“Anna. What exactly are you trying to do?”

“I made so many crowns for you. I made one for Faye. Just one.”

“Why did you have to destroy it? Were you trying to embarrass me? Were you trying to make Faye cry?”

“First you deliberately bought the wrong wine for Faye. Now you’ve broken her crown.”

“Anna, I never imagined you’d become this kind of person.”

“What kind of person?”

I straightened my back and met his gaze.

“Noah, is that really how you see me? Petty? Oversensitive? Jealous?”

His jaw tightened.

For a split second, uncertainty flashed through his eyes.

He took few steps back on instinct. Then his gaze drifted toward the first-aid kit.

He hesitated before stepping closer again.

His wolf sighed.

“Even now, all you can think about is the cut on her leg. Noah, you love her too much.”

“Why can’t she see how much we love her? Even one hug would be enough.”

I didn’t understand anymore.

And I didn’t want to.

I quietly zipped my suitcase shut. Then I lifted it.

“Noah, let’s end our mate bond.”

The room fell completely silent.

His back stiffened. Slowly, he turned to look at me.

“…What did you just say?”

A flicker of triumph crossed Faye’s eyes before she quickly hid behind him, tears welling up again.

“Was it because I stayed here tonight? Did I upset Luna?”

“I’ll leave right now. I never meant to come between you. I’m so sorry…”

“It’s not your fault,” Noah said, stroking her hair. “You’re staying here. Don’t worry about a thing.”

Then he looked at me, his face turned cold.

“You know I don’t joke about things like this. You walk out that door, and there is no us.”

My nails dug into my palms.

Exhausted, I nodded.

“Okay. Then this is where we end.”

His eyes went wide with disbelief. His shoulders trembled.

“Then you’d better have the guts to stick to it,” he growled.

“Get out. And don’t come crawling back to me in the middle of the night when you’re lost.”

His wolf panicked.

“No! We can’t let our mate leave!”

“Anna… if she’d just admit she was wrong, we’d make up right away.”

“Why has she become so cruel? She knows we love her.”

Cruel?

Hearing his wolf accuse me made me want to laugh.

Since when did love mean constant insults and humiliation?

I looked straight at Noah.

“Before The Moon Goddess, I, Anna White, reject Alpha Noah Sterling of the Silver Moon Pack as my mate. I will no longer be his Luna.”

Noah’s face darkened. A storm raged in his emerald eyes.

Then he let out a cold laugh.

“Fine,” he bit out. “I accept your rejection.”

The instant the words left his mouth, agony exploded through my chest.

It felt as though my soul were being torn apart.

I refused to fall to my knees.

Under Noah’s dangerous stare, I dragged my suitcase behind me and walked out the front door without looking back.

I’d only gone a few steps when my phone rang. It was Noah.
