She’s the Obstacle, He’s the Hero, I’m Just the Plot They’re Skipping Chapter 12

I opened my eyes to nothing, just solid, depthless black. For a terrible moment, I thought the fall had taken my sight.

Then, slowly, light bled through — thin, jagged slivers of it, leaking through uneven gaps. Dawn.

It wasn’t blindness. The comments had swallowed my entire field of vision.

[OH MY GOD she can finally see us???]

[Wait, did that system player get obliterated?? Her block on us is totally gone!]

[I swear if another player hijacks our comments and makes us say that garbage again, I’m going to lose my mind.]

Obliterated? Did that mean Chloe was dead?

Fragments surfaced — a woman screaming, a sound like something burning, sizzling through the air. And Arthur’s face, right before everything cut out.

Chloe had cleared the area — she’d made that very clear. So how had Arthur been there?

And there was no way I’d survived a fall like that without a scratch.

The flood of comments finally thinned out enough for my eyes to actually follow them.

Arthur came over with a glass of water, the straw already angled toward me.

“Olivia. You’re up.

“Here, drink. You passed out in the garden. I carried you back.”

Passed out? I took the glass, but the word didn’t feel right.

The comments were pouring in too fast for me to process — line after line, flooding the space between us — and the question I’d been about to ask Arthur slipped clean out of my head.

So Chloe really had been a transmigrator, someone dropped into this world from another one. Their mission was supposed to be simple, protect the leads, keep the minor world from collapsing.

But players got greedy. The leads had resources they wanted, and instead of doing the job and going home, some players started forcing themselves into those positions — taking over the leads’ lives entirely.

Chloe had been one of them.

She’d told Ethan what she was — a system player — and made him a promise: cooperate with her mission, and she’d use her points to cure me.

To prove she could do it, she’d spent a few points that first time around, giving my body a brief, miraculous improvement right in front of Ethan.

A year ago — when I’d suddenly gotten better out of nowhere. That had been her.

[The male lead sent Olivia to the care facility a year ago because he was terrified she’d figure out something was off and it would break her.]

[That psycho player spent her points making Olivia worse, and the whole time Olivia kept telling him she felt fine just so he wouldn’t worry.]

[He actually believed the points were working. He had no idea.]

[Remember when that player threw herself at him? Ethan ended up with scratches all over his side.]

[He scrubbed himself raw in the shower that night.]

[Olivia used to love tracing those muscles with her fingers, and after that day she never looked at him the same way again.]

[Ethan hasn’t slept a single night since he sent Olivia to a care facility full of hot male staffers.]

[He cries under his blanket every single night.]

[Olivia, LOOK at your man.]

[If that man had a tail, he’d be generating enough wind power to light up a city.]
