She Woke Up After Eight Years To Find Her Husband Had A New Wife Chapter 07

Lucian glanced at me. I saw it–the guilt. 

And right behind it, something else. The urge to run. 

“Isolde,” he said in a lowered voice, “Can you just… not upset him? He’s just a kid.” 

A kid. He was my kid! 

“He’s been with Vanessa his whole life,” Lucian went on. “She’s the only mother he knows.” 

“You showing up out of nowhere–it’s a lot. Of course he’s struggling with it.” 

“Just… give him time.” 

Caleb couldn’t follow the words, but kids always sense when 

something’s wrong. 

He wrapped his arms around Lucian’s neck and stared at me 

warily. 

He leaned close to Lucian’s ear and whispered, “Daddy, I don’t like her. Can you make her go away?” 

Lucian didn’t say a word. He just looked at me. And I got 

everything. 

He wanted me to leave. He wanted me to never appear in front 

of his new family again. 

“I’m not leaving. I’m not letting this go, Lucian.” 

His expression darkened instantly, turning cold. 

His voice was icy. “Then what do you want?” 

“Do 

you want me to divorce and marry you? Or do you want 

Caleb to acknowledge you as his mother?” 

“Look at yourself. Do you really think you deserve any of that?” 

What he said hit me hard. It really hurt. 

Something in his father’s voice must have changed–Caleb felt

He squirmed out of Lucian’s grip and came at me again, small fists already swinging. 

“Go away! Go away! Leave my daddy alone!” 

His punches didn’t really hurt. But every hit still got to me. 

I didn’t move. Didn’t flinch. Just stood there and took it. 

After a few blows, he suddenly stopped, confusion filling his 

eyes. 

“Why aren’t you moving? Why don’t you run away?” 

“Caleb,” I called his name. It came out in a whisper, broken and shaking. 

“Do you know, on the day you were born-” 

“Isolde!” Lucian cut me off sharply, his eyes full of warning. 

Caleb looked at him, then at me, and suddenly burst into tears. “Daddy! She’s scaring me!” 

The door was flung open. Vanessa rushed in and scooped Caleb into her arms. 

“What happened, sweetheart? Why are you crying?” 

Caleb buried his face in her neck, sobbing so hard he could barely breathe. 

“Mommy, the bad lady–she was mean to me! She yelled at 

me!” 

Lucian walked over and put an arm around Vanessa’s 

shoulders. 

“It’s fine. She just got a little… worked up. Said some things 

she probably shouldn’t have.” 

Vanessa looked at him suspiciously. “What things?” 

Lucian didn’t answer. 

Caleb was still sobbing, his voice high and frantic. 

“Mommy, make her go! I don’t want her here! This is our 

house!” 

Vanessa patted his back gently, her voice soft and soothing. 

“Okay, baby. Okay. She’s leaving.” 

“Don’t cry, sweetie. Mommy’s here.” 

Then she looked up at me. And there it was–pure, naked 

disgust. 

“You heard him. Please leave.” 

I stood there, looking at the family of three in front of me. 

I was the ghost at the feast. The stranger in someone else’s 

family photo. 

Caleb shouted at me, “You bad lady! Just go!” 

“My mommy is my daddy’s wife! I wish you would just die!” 

And there it was. The final cut. Carving out whatever scraps of hope I’d still been holding onto. 

I turned. And I walked. One step. Then another. Toward the 

door. 

Behind me, Vanessa’s gentle voice continued as she comforted 

Caleb, soft enough to melt anyone. 

The door closed quietly behind me. 

I stood in the cold hallway, listening to the laughter coming 

from inside. 

At last, my tears fell. 

I don’t remember getting back to the hospital. 

When the nurse saw me, she was startled and hurried over to 

support me. 

“Why did you go out on your own? You hasn’t recovered yet. You need to stay in bed and rest!”
