She Took My Seat, He Took Her Side, I Took Another Man Chapter 09

Dominic’s eyes had gone red around the rims. “Sienna, I was just-”

“I know what you’re going to say.” I shook my head gently. “You were thrown off. You didn’t think the mudslide would come that fast. You were scared for Nina. I know all of it. But Dominic-when someone’s in a blind panic, they protect what matters most to them. In that moment, the person you shielded was her. Not me. Not my parents.”

He had no comeback. No argument. Nothing.

“On that day, you made your choice-you took Nina and you left. Does she even know you’re here begging me

now?”

A sharp voice cut through the air from behind him.

“Didn’t you promise me that once I had this baby, you’d throw Sienna away and be with me? Didn’t you say you didn’t love her? That it was all just an act? She’s marrying someone else now-so just marry me! What’s the problem? Why would you come here and crash her wedding?”

Nina stood right behind him. She strode forward and grabbed his arm, trying to drag him away.

Those words hit my ears, and I let out a short, bitter laugh. “So this is what you meant by treating me right, Dominic?”

His expression went black. He shook off Nina’s hand. “What are you saying? This isn’t the place for you! Go

home!”

He barked it at her, and she froze.

“Go.”

His voice was flat, utterly emotionless, but it cut like a blade, pushing her far, far away. Nina stood stunned for two full seconds before the tears broke through. She cried out loud, right there.

I didn’t have the energy to care about their drama.

“Dominic.” I rose slowly to my feet. “The moment you slammed that car door shut, there was no future left between us.”

His brow furrowed even deeper. “So you’re marrying Sebastian over that one thing?”

“Yes. Over that one thing.” I repeated his words right back at him.

He fell silent.

“Dominic, did you come here because you genuinely believed we could still be fixed? Or was it because the

idea of me marrying someone else damaged your pride?”

His silence was all the answer I needed. I’d known this man for seven years. Every micro-expression, every tiny shift in his face-I could read them all. When he didn’t speak, it was as good as admitting it.

“From beginning to end, the only person you ever thought about was yourself.”

I finished the sentence, gave him no room to respond, then turned and looked for Sebastian.

He stood behind me-not too close, not too far. Far enough to give me all the space I needed to settle things. with the past and the people who belonged to it. Close enough that if Dominic so much as made one wrong move toward me, he’d be there in a heartbeat, shielding me with his own body.
