She Stops Fighting And Hands Her Husband Over To The Other Woman Chapter 06

When the paramedics arrived, they went straight to the stiff body on the floor.

‘I’m so sorry…

After a basic examination, the two paramedics looked at Julian and shook their heads in silence, then began packing

their equipment.

They prepared to leave with the gurney.

The meaning behind their movements was unmistakable.

Julian grabbed one of the paramedics:

“No! Try again! Please, try again! Take her to the hospital! Get her to the ER…”

“Please, save her…”

The paramedic tried to console him: “We understand, but there’s truly nothing more we can do.”

The man collapsed by the gurney, his voice raspy and his eyes bloodshot.

He gripped the paramedic’s arm with incredible force, as if holding onto a final straw:

“She was… she was just talking! She was talking just minutes ago! Please, can’t we just go to the hospital!”

The paramedic, frustrated, tried to pull away.

His gaze toward the man was one of restrained professional patience.

Finally, perhaps because of protocol, the paramedic nodded.

They lifted the woman onto the ambulance.

The man sat in the cramped back of the ambulance with his son and daughter.

But there was no sense of urgency in the cabin.

The paramedic just shook his head helplessly; only the monotonous beep of the monitors filled the air.

The lights of the emergency room were blindingly white.

The woman was quickly wheeled into the trauma room, and the red light above the door lit up

The man was blocked outside; in his arms, his daughter finally cried herself to exhaustion and fell asleep, her small face streaked with tears.

Minutes passed, each one feeling like an eternity on a bed of coals.

Leaning against the cold wall, the man’s head was a roar of noise

He thought of his daughter’s sobs, then of his wife’s hateful eyes when she coughed up blood.

As if remembering something, he suddenly stood up straight.

He gently laid his sleeping daughter on a hallway bench and covered her with his jacket, telling his son to watch over

her

Then, like a trapped beast that had finally found a goal, he strode toward the ER reception desk.

“My wife! The one they just brought in! I want to see her medical records! All of them!”

The nurse looked up:

“Sir, please wait patiently while she’s being treated. Records need to be released by a doctor…”

The nurse stopped when she saw the look in his eyes-bloodshot and desperate.

Startled, she quickly went to find a doctor for him.

Eventually, a doctor came over, operated the computer screen, and pulled up the records.

The few minutes of waiting felt like a century.

A few pages were printed and handed to him through the window.

The man stared blankly at the contents:

[Diagnosis: Gastric adenocarcinoma, stage IV (terminal).]

[Treatment Recommendation: Chemotherapy combined with targeted drugs, but distant metastasis (liver, lungs) has

been found; prognosis is extremely poor.]

[Patient Awareness: The patient is aware of the condition and prognosis. She has refused aggressive treatment, opting for

palliative care and pain management; relevant informed consent has been signed.]

[Recent Follow-up: Pain intensifying, difficulty swallowing, symptoms of hematemesis and melena; potent painkillers and

hemostatic medication prescribed.]

The last follow-up was only a week ago. The doctor had noted at the end:

[Patient is extremely weak; cancerous rupture, hemorrhage, or systemic failure could occur at any time, but she refuses

hospitalization]

Ink on paper, as final as a death warrant

Every word was clear, yet freezing.

Stage IV. Metastasis. Extremely poor prognosis. Patient aware. Refused aggressive treatment Palliative care Any time

The man had to lean against the wall just to stay standing.

The trauma room door opened at that moment.

The doctor walked out, eyes calm and weary, with the indifference of someone used to life and death.

“I’m very sorry. We did everything we could.”

The patient suffered a massive upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage due to terminal gastric cancer, leading to

multi-organ failure. Resuscitation was unsuccessful. Time of death…”

The man couldn’t hear the words that followed.

Only a buzzing roar remained in his ears.

Then, he noticed his phone, which he had somehow gripped tightly in his hand again.

The screen lit up suddenly, and a new message notification popped up.

It was from that familiar, yet now monstrous, profile picture:

Julian, how is Elena? Take care of yourself, okay? Remember, I’m at home waiting for you every day…”

The man violently smashed the phone in his hand.
