She Stole My Bloodline, My Alpha, And My Death Sentence Chapter 05

A piercing scream tore through the valley, followed by the heavy thud of a body hitting the ground and a chorus of frantic shouting.

“Elara collapsed!”

“Oh my God, get the healers! She’s coughing up blood!”

I stood in the crowd and watched from a distance as healers sprinted over with their medical kits.

When they carried Elara out, her lips had gone a dark, bruised purple. Blood traced a thin line from the corner of her mouth.

Corvin seized a healer by the sleeve, shaking so badly he could barely stand. “Save her! Please, save her! She’s my mate. She can’t die!”

On the stretcher, Elara cracked her eyes open. She found me in the crowd, her gaze flooding with terror and disbelief.

“Sterling— you—” I read her lips. “Phoebe, you were carrying a curse?”

“Elara, don’t talk!” Corvin gripped her hand and rushed alongside the stretcher toward the emergency room.

With her gone, the grand pack run ground to a halt. The elders had no choice but to ask my mother to step in and lead the pack through the run.

I did not get to go home either.

Half an hour later, Corvin sought out the Alpha King and begged for a meeting with me.

My dad wanted to refuse. I agreed instead. “Fine. The pack hospital.
I’m on my way.”

Outside the ICU, Corvin slumped against the wall like a man whose
world had collapsed.

When he saw me coming, he lunged forward like I was the last lifeline
in a storm. His hands clamped down on my shoulders so hard I
thought my bones would crack.

“Phoebe! Help her! The healers say it’s the Silver Moon Curse. You
had it too, right? How did you get better? Tell them how! Save her!”

I peeled his hands off me and looked at his distorted face.

“Corvin, there is no cure for this curse. Not unless there’s a miracle.”

“A miracle—” he muttered, then his head snapped up as if a memory
had struck him. “Yes! Elara woke up for a moment. She kept calling
your name. She said only you can save her! She said she wants to
give it all back!”

He bent at the waist, his voice crumbling into something close to a
plea. “Phoebe, for the sake of everything we shared growing up,
please just go see her. If she sees you, maybe she can pull through. If
she lives, I’ll do anything you ask. Anything. Please.”

I was unmoved. If the old Corvin knew that the miracle he had once
begged for was now being begged away by this version of himself, he
would have strangled this Corvin with his own hands.

I pushed past him and walked into the room. Not because of his
pleas. Because I had something to give Elara.

Elara lay in the bed, fragile as paper, her lips completely drained of color.

At the sound of the door, she wrenched her head toward me.

The moment she saw my face, a fierce, desperate light exploded in her unfocused eyes.

Her words came in broken fragments. “Switch it back—switch it back now—I don’t want the Moon Goddess’s blessing anymore! I don’t want Corvin! I want to live—I just want to live!”

I walked to the bedside, leaned down, and gently smoothed the tangled hair from her face.

“Elara, how are you feeling right now?” I asked softly.

Elara clawed at the hem of my sleeve, tears streaming down her face. “Please—switch it back! I’ll give you Corvin. You can lead the pack run again. You’re the perfect princess—”

I tilted my head, feigning ignorance. “What exactly happened? What did you switch?”

Through her tears, Elara finally confessed. “I found a witch. I had her exchange your bloodline with mine. I’m sorry. I was so jealous of you. I didn’t want to spend my whole life as an Omega. But I never imagined you were carrying a curse. I can’t endure this! I could die at any moment! So please, Phoebe, let’s find the witch and switch everything back. You can punish me however you want afterward.”

She expected rage.

Instead, I dropped a pendant onto her chest. The moment she saw

what was inside it, her eyes went wide with horror.

It was the witch’s own pendant.
