She Got His Celebration, I Got His Betrayal Chapter 02

I woke up the next morning with a splitting headache.

Julian said, “I’m at your office. Come over when you wake up and handle your resignation.”

But when I got to the office, he wasn’t there.

I was used to it. I packed my things, signed the papers, and walked through the process on my own.

A glass flew past the back of my head, and I stumbled back in shock. “So you’re the one who’s been screwing my husband!”

It was Mrs. Hartley, her face red with rage.

She shoved me hard. I hit the floor and shards of glass bit into my skin. Blood seeped through.

I let out a low groan.

When she raised her hand to slap me, I threw my arm up to block it.

Julian stormed in and grabbed her wrist.

“Call the police.”

His voice was sharp. “Celeste’s agent was stuck in traffic. I was late because I drove her to the venue.”

“If I’m not around, can you at least stay out of trouble? Don’t cause problems.”

I didn’t know if it was the fever or the broken glass, but every inch of my body hurt. Then his words landed, and the ache in my chest swallowed the pain in my leg.

“If I’m such a problem, you don’t have to deal with me.”

Julian’s hand froze on its way to help me up.

“My bad. It’s not like Mr. Prescott has ever really dealt with me.”

After the harassment, I had to find my own lawyer.

When I got sick, I went to the hospital alone.

Even after a fender bender, I watched other people call their husbands and get picked up while I crouched by the road dialing my insurance company.

Where was my husband?

With Celeste.

He stayed with her when she was sick. He stayed with her when she was drunk and causing trouble. And of course he stayed with her when she broke her contract with her agency.

I felt the strength leave my body. “Actually, I’d like to know too. Why did you marry me?”

He frowned, and his throat moved. Then Celeste’s call came through. “Julian, can you help me move? Just thinking about living with you makes me so happy!”

Julian instinctively glanced at me.

“Celeste’s contract situation is blowing up right now. Reporters are all over her. I’m going to let her crash at our place for a few days.”

“Katherine, I only think of her as—”

“As a sister.”

I finished the sentence for him.

“I know. You don’t have to explain. I won’t ask again.”

He frowned. “Why are you acting up again? She’s childish. Why can’t you be more understanding?”

The wound on my leg burned. The corners of my mouth pulled down against my will.

If I cared about him, I was targeting her. If I didn’t care, I was throwing a tantrum.

I swallowed the pain and said, “Julian, I want a div—”

His phone rang again.

He answered and rattled off a few quick replies.

“Something came up at the firm. Go home first. Help Celeste get settled. I’ll take you both out for dinner tonight.”

I watched him walk away.

My heart gave one slow, heavy beat. The blood on my palm mixed with the tears on my face.

It was late by the time I got my wounds bandaged and went home.

A dark shape lunged at me out of nowhere.

I jerked back and slammed into the wall.

Only then did I see it was a huge dog.

“Julian, why are you—oh. It’s you.”

Celeste’s damp hair hung around her face. When she saw me clearly, her tone turned cold.

“This should still be my home.”

Then her eyes lit up like she’d discovered something new.

She patted the dog’s head and backed me into the corner.

“Oh, so Katherine is afraid of dogs.”

“Then don’t move. Katie is the wolfdog Julian brought back from South America just for me. He eats people.”

Katie.

The name landed like a slap. Close enough to Katherine to make my skin crawl.

Celeste smiled.

“Julian never told you, did he? Katie was too wild, so he gave him that name. He wanted the dog to be as sweet and obedient as you, Katherine.”
