She Drew Our Love, She Drew Our End Chapter 06

She Drew Our Love, She Drew Our End Chapter 06

They drove back to Houston.

Ethan was certain I had to be somewhere in the city.

His reason was simple.

As far as he knew, every dollar I had left was still under Sloane’s control.

But the moment he got back, he learned that his biggest rival had taken a major research contract from

Prescott Biomedical.

After days of one disaster after another, Ethan snapped and swept a stack of files onto the floor.

“What the hell happened? This project was supposed to be a lock. How did we screw up this badly in front of

the client?”

Everyone lowered their heads. No one dared speak.

Only a young woman stepped forward.

“Of course they couldn’t handle it. Emma ran this project by herself from start to finish.”

“She did all the work for a five–dollar stipend.”

Ethan opened the project report, but my name wasn’t anywhere on it.

“Don’t bother. Your precious best friend sold Emma’s project credit to someone else for ten cents.”

“For a year, every project Emma researched or managed was handed to someone else for pocket change.”

He looked up at the young woman.

“What did you just say?”

Instead, she looked at him with open contempt.

She yanked the ID badge from around her neck and flung it to the floor.

“I said Emma finally got away from your sorry ass.”

“And I’m done too. I quit.”

Ethan’s knuckles went white around the project report.

“Daniel, fire everyone who ever took credit for Emma’s work.”

“No. Fire all of them.”

“And get a lawyer.”

Daniel nodded.

As Daniel reached the door, Ethan added,

“Find out who Nathan Sterling hired.”

“Yes, sir.”

Only after everyone had left

did Ethan collapse into his chair.

He remembered how, back in school, I’d been miles ahead of everyone else in my program.

I’d paid my own way through school and still made money doing research on the side.

After my master’s, I’d planned to go straight into a PhD program.

Ethan was the one who’d persuaded me to work for his company instead.

He’d told me I’d be Mrs. Prescott someday anyway, so I might as well learn the family business.

Instead, once I joined Prescott Biomedical,

the jar cut my pay to a five–dollar token stipend, and other people stole credit for my work.

Ethan hadn’t even known what job I was doing.

“Emmie…”

Daniel quickly found out who Nathan Sterling had hired.

The moment Ethan learned the answer, he called Nathan.

His voice was hoarse.

“Nathan Sterling, if you have a problem with me, come after me. This is between us.

Nathan answered with open contempt.

“Ethan Prescott, do you really think the world revolves around you?”

Ethan’s grip tightened until his knuckles whitened.

“What did you do to her? Emmie would never work for you unless you forced her!”

“Or… have the two of you been together this whole time?”

Silence stretched so long Ethat thought Nathan had hung up.

“You had no right to humiliate her for five years.”

“What the hell does that mean? Answer me! Have you two been together all along?”

The only response was a dial tone

Ethan hurled his phone at the window.

Spiderweb cracks bloomed across the glass.

“It’s okay, Emmie. I’ll forgive you.”

he whispered to himself.

Then he called Sloane.

“Come with me.”

His once–immaculate suit was rumpled, cigarette butts scattered around his feet.

Sloane folded her arms impatiently.

“Are you insane? We’ve been standing out here forever. Isn’t Nathan Sterling supposed to be your biggest

rival?”

Ethan exhaled slowly. Through the smoke, he caught sight of me.

His eyes lit up. He grabbed Sloane and rushed toward me.

He didn’t even notice the lit tip of his cigarette burning into her skin.

“Jesus, Ethan! You’re burning me. Let go!”

Ethan lit up at the sight of me. I looked at him like I’d just found something filthy on the sidewalk.

The day my father died replayed in my head, scene after scene.

I couldn’t pretend to be calm around him.

I turned to leave,

but he’d already dragged Sloane into my path.

“Emmie, listen. From now on, you handle all our money. No more draws. Spend whatever you want.”

“I’ve already planned our engagement party. I hired the best planner in Houston. They’ll use your favorite pink roses.”

11:– Asudocs secretary. His silent mate. Not anymore.

“Sloane, apologize. Tell her why you believed the wrong information.”

“Emmie, Sloane told me everything. She didn’t do it on purpose. Someone gave her bad information.”

He pushed Sloane toward me.

I took a step back.

“Save the apology. You’ll both be hearing from my attorney soon.”

“The security footage from that day shows exactly how you stopped me from getting my father emergency

care.”

“The only relationship we have now is plaintiff and defendant.”

He searched my eyes and found no love left in them.

For the first time, he seemed to understand that he might actually lose me.
