What poppies?

Those were clearly Shirley Poppies!

The leaves of Shirley Poppies are sweet and edible; they’re one of Julian’s favorite ingredients, which is why I planted them in the back.

But a second later, Julian’s cold voice rang out:

“There is indeed a patch of plants in the back garden. They have jagged leaves and bright flowers that turn into bulbous seed pods. I didn’t know what they were; my girlfriend insisted on planting them.”

The officer’s face darkened upon hearing this. With a grim look, he waved his hand and ordered:

“Everyone, search the backyard immediately!”

An officer gripped my arm tightly, and I was forced to follow them to the back garden.

Julian, with his arm around a smiling Lexi, followed at a leisurely pace.

Lexi was flirting with Julian while interacting with her followers.

Soon, the group reached the backyard.

The patch of green plants was thriving, their slender stems topped with vibrant pink flowers swaying in the breeze.

Lexi immediately broke away from Julian and pointed at the plants excitedly:

“See, Officer? I wasn’t lying! Even a kid could recognize these drug flowers!”

The lead officer stepped forward, knelt down, and carefully inspected the plants.

The livestream chat was full of vitriol, everyone waiting for my downfall.

At that moment, Julian moved closer to me and whispered so only I could hear:

“Look how bright Lexi’s smile is.”

“Don’t worry, she’s only saying this for the views and the clout. Once she’s had her fun, we’ll explain it away. The Gilded Sage will only grow more popular after this drama.”

I curled my lips into a smile, my eyes icy cold.

Once the seed of doubt is planted, who will ever believe a restaurant is clean again?

The officer repeatedly felt the fine hairs on the plant stems. His brow cleared, and he stood up, turning to a triumphant Lexi with a sharp, cold gaze:

“These aren’t Opium Poppies. They’re Shirley Poppies!”

“Opium poppies have thick, smooth stems with no hair. These stems are thin and covered in fuzz. These are ornamental flowers!”

Upon hearing this, Lexi gasped theatrically, her eyes wide:

“Oh! They’re Shirley Poppies? They look so similar, how was I supposed to know?”

She whipped around and glared at me, blaming me:

“Seraphina, why would you plant those? You made me look like an idiot in front of my fans and wasted the officers’ time!”

I glanced at Julian and said flatly:

“Can’t you see this is a vegetable garden? They’re for eating, obviously.”

The crowd finally noticed that the backyard was actually a kitchen garden, filled with greens, herbs, and scallions around the flowers.

Seeing Lexi’s displeasure, Julian frowned and looked at me with reproach:

“If they weren’t illegal, why didn’t you say so from the start?”

He then turned to the officer with an apologetic bow:

“I am so sorry, Officer. My girlfriend is inconsiderate for planting things that look so suspicious. We didn’t mean to cause this trouble.”

Before the police could respond, Lexi suddenly punched Julian playfully on the chest and dropped another bombshell:

“It’s not a misunderstanding! Even if those are just flowers, there’s definitely a bag of that addictive powder hidden in the pantry!”

Julian went stiff, his expression shifting as he tried to cover Lexi’s mouth, explaining frantically:

“Officer, she’s just like a child, she talks without thinking. She’s totally joking, don’t take her seriously!”

But the officers exchanged looks and immediately sprinted toward the kitchen.

Watching them go, Lexi suddenly grinned and spread her hands in a playful, mischievous gesture.

“Aha! Fooled you again! I was still kidding~”

However, before she could finish her sentence, cold handcuffs snapped around her wrist.

Seconds later, Julian and I were also handcuffed and pressed to the ground.

A large clear bag containing a light brown powder was slammed down in front of us by an officer.
