She Called Him Controlling I Called Him My Ticket To Ivy Chapter 04

I asked his opinion on what to wear, where to go, sent him my location proactively wherever I was, and even told him when I took a sip of water.

It turned out Josiah really had a strong need to be in control, and he was always in a good mood whenever I obeyed him.

Luke was incredibly efficient.

In less than a week, all the paperwork for my withdrawal from the community college was done.

When the whole dorm found out I was leaving, they all crowded around to ask what I planned to do after school.

With Stella right there, I would never tell them the truth, so I said, “My boyfriend says community college is a dead end. He wants me to go home and says he’ll take care of me.”

Seeing how lovestruck I seemed, my other two roommates were quick to voice their strong objections.

Mia Carter, who slept across from me, eyes wide, said, “Hazel, have you lost your mind? A community college degree is still a degree; it’ll help you get a job later.”

Tina Hall chimed in, too, “Exactly. Don’t be stupid, men aren’t reliable. You’re dropping out for him now, what if he dumps you later?”

They went back and forth, practically trying to pin me down in my seat.

Before I could say a word, Stella let out a scoff and said, “You two are being too much. Hazel’s clearly off to live a good life.”

Mia frowned and said, “Stella, how can you say that? She’s only doing this because of the online boyfriend you passed to her…”

“Don’t be ridiculous,” Stella rolled her eyes. “That guy might be a little cheap, but he’s way more generous than most guys.”

“Besides, Hazel’s doing this of her own free will, so why are you meddling? Don’t you know what it means to respect other people’s choices? Just worry about yourselves.”

Mia and Tina were left speechless, their faces filled with disbelief.

I said nothing, bowing my head to keep packing my bags.

Stella was right, we should respect other people’s choices.

And she had no idea what kind of fate she was about to watch me live.

As soon as I left the college, I moved into a mansion, one with a dedicated butler and maids, and a personal doctor on call 24 hours a day.

All I had to do was sit back and let everything be done for me.

But even as I enjoyed the good life, I didn’t forget to build my persona on social media.

I posted all sorts of lovestruck, clingy girlfriend lines, saying I spent every day doing housework for my boyfriend.

I even posted that my boyfriend bought me gifts, using fake online photos of cheap little things that didn’t add up to more than a hundred bucks total.

Stella commented under my posts, saying she was so jealous of me.

Then she turned around and said in the dorm group chat: [Hazel’s so stupid. He’s just using her as a free maid, and she actually thinks she’s going to be a rich lady.]

The comments flashing before my eyes were green with envy at my life.

[This side chick is so shameless. All this should be Stella’s!]

[She’s even faking her social media posts to trick Stella, scared Stella’ll find out the truth and come for Josiah.]

I didn’t care how they cursed me.

After all, their words couldn’t hurt me one bit.

On the third day of living in the mansion, Luke came over with a file folder.

He said, “Ms. Clarkson, this is your Kenilworth residency; it’s all sorted out.”

I stared at the document, my hands trembling.

A Kenilworth residency was something my parents had dreamed of getting for my brother, and it had fallen into my lap just like that.

Over the next week, Luke brought in several tutors one after another.

A writing teacher who’d helped design SAT exam questions, a math teacher who’d written study guides, a reading teacher who’d once been a university professor…

I scheduled my study sessions from eight in the morning until eleven at night.

Josiah saw my schedule and was not happy, making me stop studying at nine every night, saying that cramming that hard would drive me insane.

I wanted to say that was nothing, any student from the Midwest studied until eleven every night.

But I didn’t dare argue, not with my real Daddy.

And so I studied, built my clingy girlfriend persona on social media, and made time to chat with Josiah every day.

In the blink of an eye, it was time for me to take the SAT.

The night before the exam, I was getting ready for a good night’s sleep when the comments that hadn’t appeared in a long time suddenly blew up.

[He’s back! The old man’s back!]

[Here we go! He’s about to find out the side chick’s a fake, kick her out, and go running back to Stella!]

[LMAO imagine her working so hard for this and then not even getting to take the SAT—chef’s kiss.]

My heart dropped into my stomach.

Josiah was back?

And he was going to stop me from taking the SAT?

My body moved faster than my brain, and before I knew it, I had my things in hand and was at the front door.

I could lose everything else, but I had to take the SAT and get into Kenilworth University.

I just twisted the doorknob open when I crashed straight into a hard chest.
