Shattered Moonlight, Broken Luna Chapter 09

Shattered Moonlight, Broken Luna Chapter 09

By the next day, what happened at that reunion had spread across the entire Northern Territories.

Damien and Ella were done.

Damien publicly announced that their engagement was canceled, then spent the night pulling every cent he had out of all joint projects with Stardust Pack.

Stardust Pack had barely maintained its decency. Most of their shine came from Damien’s investments propping them up. Once he yanked the money out, the whole thing collapsed. Their cash flow snapped in half, and they went straight into a bankruptcy crisis.

Ella became a joke. The white swan everyone used to envy turned into a soaked, filthy stray.

Rumor said she went to Damien’s office building and knelt at the entrance, begging for forgiveness, only to be dragged away by security like a piece of garbage.

As for Damien, he looked like he had lost his mind. He searched the world for me like a madman.

But I had planned for that. That same night, I quit the club, moved out of that rotten little rental, and changed my number. I wanted a few quiet days.

Still, I underestimated the power of capital. On the third evening, I came home to my newly rented apartment and saw his black Bentley parked at the curb.

He leaned against the car with a cigarette between his fingers. The ground near his shoes was littered with butts.

Three days without seeing him and he somehow looked ten years older. Stubble shadowed his jaw, his eyes were sunken, his shirt was wrinkled. There was not a trace left of the polished financial Alpha everybody knew.

The second he saw me, his eyes lit. “Chloe,” he croaked, walking toward me carefully. “I finally found you.”

I sighed, knowing this was not something I could outrun. “Alpha, what do you want?”

“Don’t call me Alpha. Call me Damien.” He stared at me, heartbroken. “I’ve broke off the engagement with Ella and got back on Stardust Pack. Ella is ruined. She paid the price. Can you, just once, give me another chance?”

“I will transfer everything I own to you, every share, every property in my name. I don’t need any of it, as long as you let me stay by your side and make things right.”

He pulled a thick stack of documents from inside his coat and held them out with trembling hands. “These are the deeds, the equity transfer forms, my bank cards. The passwords are your birthday…”

I looked at that pile of wealth, enough to make most werewolves dizzy. Inside, I felt nothing.

“Damien, do you really think you can fix everything with money?” I didn’t take the papers, just staring at him. “You think I will be moved because you brag about tearing Stardust Pack apart for my sake?”

“If you truly feel sorry for what you did, then stop trying to insert yourself into my life. That would be the greatest compensation to me.”

I stepped around him and headed for the door of my building. Just as I lifted my card to the scanner, Ella came out of nowhere like a maniac.

“Chloe, you bitch! Go to hell!” She had a silver knife in her hand and swung it straight at me.

“Watch out!” Damien shouted and threw himself between us without thinking. The knife went in with sickening ease. He grunted, one hand clamping over his abdomen as he dropped to the ground. Blood spread fast across his shirt.

Ella stared, shocked, the knife clattering from her fingers.

I pulled out my phone, my tone calm.

“Hello, emergency? Someone has been stabbed.”

“And there is an armed lunatic at the scene. I will need the police too.”
