Seven Years Of Rain Stopped The Day I Signed The Consent Chapter 08

Adrian slowly turned and stared at Chloe.

“You lied to me?”

Chloe covered her face and backed away in panic, shaking her head.

“No, Adrian, listen to me. I really am scared of thunder. The band… the band must be broken.”

Adrian stepped forward and grabbed her by the collar.

“I asked if you lied to me.”

His eyes were bloodshot, and the veins on his forehead stood out.

“Do you understand that because of this stupid little band, because you faked being sick, my child is gone?”

Chloe screamed in fear.

“Adrian, I was wrong. I just wanted you to spend more time with me. I was jealous of Evelyn. Why did she get to have you as her husband while I had to hide behind the word sister?”

“You used to care about me the most.”

Adrian shoved her away.

Chloe hit the dry yellow dirt and landed in a humiliating heap.

“Get out.”

Adrian pointed toward the road in the distance.

“From today on, you’re not my sister anymore. If you ever show your face in front of me again, I’ll make you regret it.”

Chloe scrambled up, sobbing, and ran off in a panic.

Then Adrian turned back to me. His knees buckled, and he fell to them in front of me.

Workers leaving the site all turned to stare, but he didn’t care anymore.

“Evelyn, I was wrong. I really know I was wrong.”

“I was blind. I was stupid. Please forgive me this once. Let’s start over. We can still have another child…”

I looked at him.

“Adrian, love that shows up after the damage is done isn’t worth a damn.”

“I already signed the divorce agreement. If you refuse to sign, I’ll take it to court. I’ve kept every medical record and every call log.”

After that, I turned and walked back into the restaurant.

That night, Adrian stood outside my company housing until morning.

The night wind in New Mexico was biting, and he was wearing nothing but a thin suit.

When I went out the next morning, his lips were already purple from the cold, but he still forced himself to smile at me.

“Morning, Evelyn.”

I ignored him and got straight into the car heading to the site.

For the next few days, he followed me everywhere.

Whenever I ate, he quietly paid the bill.

When I went to the worksite, he trailed behind me in a hard hat and handed me water.

I treated him like he did not exist.

A week later, Mrs. Whitmore showed up.

I had no idea how she found where I was staying, but she was waiting outside my door.

The moment she saw me, none of her old arrogance was left.

“Evelyn, I know everything now. Adrian was a bastard. He hurt you terribly.”

“I already tore into him, and I’ve had someone take care of Chloe too.”

She pulled a stack of documents from her bag.

“These are the transfer documents for all the properties, cars, and company shares Adrian owns. He said that as long as you’re willing to come home, everything will be transferred to you.”

“Evelyn, just take pity on him. He hasn’t been eating or drinking these past few days, and he ended up in the hospital with a bleeding ulcer. If this keeps going, he’s going to destroy himself.”

I pulled my hand back and pushed the documents away.

“Mrs. Whitmore, I appreciate the gesture.”

She froze.

“What did you call me?”

“Mrs. Whitmore.”

I looked at her calmly.

“I don’t need the money or the houses. I only want the divorce.”

Mrs. Whitmore started to panic.

“Why are you being so stubborn? Men make mistakes. He knows he was wrong now, and he’s willing to hand over everything he owns. What else could you possibly want?”

“Besides, you’re a woman who’s had a miscarriage. Once you’re divorced, do you really think you’ll find anyone better?”

I let out a cold laugh.

“Even if I never find anyone better, I can still live perfectly well on my own.”

“As for the Whitmore family, since you’re so desperate for a grandson, you should hurry up and make him sign the papers. Then he can go find someone who can give you one.”

“See yourself out.”

Then I slammed the door in her face.
