Seven Years As His Wife… Until My Own Son Called Me A Homewrecker Chapter 15

I closed the shop early that day because I wanted no more contact with Adrian. On the way home, I stopped

for groceries and bought myself flowers. My mood remained surprisingly untouched.

I assumed my refusal would finally drive him out of my life.

Instead, when I reached my apartment, the woman across the hall raised her eyebrows at me.

“Why didn’t you tell us your husband was that handsome?”

I looked at the man and child waiting outside my door and sighed.

“Ex-husband.”

Both of them turned.

“I thought I made myself clear,” I said.

Adrian watched me as if a thousand words were trapped behind his eyes. Noah approached first and

gathered enough courage to pinch the edge of my coat.

“Mom, I’m sorry.”

He meant it in that moment. I believed that.

But he was sorry because he was afraid. He had lost the mother who gave him anything he wanted, just as

Adrian had lost the wife who made his life effortless.

How much of either apology was truly for me?

I gently removed Noah’s hand. “Your father will take care of you.”

Adrian went rigid. His eyes were bloodshot.

“I was wrong about Vanessa. Tell me what I have to do for you to forgive me.”

I gave him a faint, mocking smile. “You’re letting me decide?”

“Yes.”

“Anything I ask?”

“Anything. If you want shares in Blackwood Group, I’ll…”

“I don’t want your company.” I held his gaze. “If you want my forgiveness, get on your knees and beg the way you forced me to beg Vanessa. Can you do that?”

I chose the one thing I believed Adrian would never do. He had been admired and obeyed since birth. Aside from family tradition, he had never knelt to anyone.

Certain he would leave, I turned to unlock my door.

A soft thud sounded behind me.

I looked back.

Adrian was on his knees.

His back remained straight, but his voice was rough. “Mia, I owe you this.

“For years, I accepted everything you gave me and returned almost nothing. Only after you left did I understand how completely I had built my life around your presence.”

He looked up at me. “Somewhere along the way, I fell in love with you. I assumed you would always be my wife and that we would grow old together. I know you don’t believe me, but I came because I truly want you back.”

His composure cracked. “I want you to be happy.”

Adrian lowered his head, every trace of pride gone.

“Please forgive me, Mia.”

He stayed on his knees and repeated the plea until his voice grew hoarse.

Only then did I finally understand. Adrian might truly have fallen in love with me.

But it changed nothing.

“You’re too late,” I said softly. “I don’t love you anymore.

“You say you want me to be happy, but my happiness no longer has anything to do with you.”

I went inside and closed the door, shutting both him and Noah out of my life.

I slept soundly that night.

The next morning, I found more than a dozen missed calls from Adrian. I ignored them and got ready for

work.

Then someone began pounding on my door.

Two police officers stood in the hall with Noah between them.

“Ma’am, is this your child? We found him wandering alone.”

I looked down at him. “Where is your father?”

Noah burst into desperate sobs.

“Mom, bad people took Dad!”
