Seven Years As His Wife… Until My Own Son Called Me A Homewrecker Chapter 05

Adrian stared at the torn certificate, his eyes turning cold.

He had never imagined I would destroy it so easily. There had been a time when I treated that piece of paper like a treasure.

On the day we received it, I tucked it inside my coat and later locked it in a safe. I kept taking it out just to look at it until Adrian laughed at me.

“If we lose it, we can order another copy. You don’t have to guard it with your life.”

I had answered with complete sincerity. “You don’t understand. It means everything to me.”

It had been proof that more than a decade of loving him had finally led somewhere. It held my youth, my hope, and every foolish dream I had built around him.

Now I had torn it apart with my own hands, along with everything I had once felt for him.

Perhaps Adrian sensed the difference. His gaze followed the two pieces on the floor, and his brows drew

together.

“Mia, you…”

The hospital room door slammed open.

Vanessa rushed in holding a knife to her abdomen. Her face was wet with tears.

“Adrian, our marriage was a lie from the beginning,” she cried. “You’ve been married to this woman all these

years. Why didn’t you tell me?”

Her mouth twisted into a broken smile. “I thought she was the other woman. But it was me. I’d rather die than

be someone’s mistress.”

She raised the knife.

Adrian caught the blade with his bare hand. It sliced deep into his palm, but he did not let go.

Blood ran down the steel and struck the floor.

I remembered the night Noah became sick and I asked Adrian to make him something to eat while I called

the doctor.

“The staff can handle that,” he had said. “These hands make money. It would be ridiculous to risk injuring

them in the kitchen.”

Those hands could move nine-figure sums with a single signature. Yet for Vanessa, he had caught a blade

with them without a second thought.

That was the difference between being loved and merely being tolerated. It had taken me far too long to

learn it.

I was about to ask them both to leave when Adrian pulled Vanessa into his arms.

“Vanessa, Mia tricked me. That certificate isn’t what you think. Let me explain.”

He spoke quickly, desperate to calm her. “Mia married me for money. She wanted a share of the Blackwood

fortune. She sleeps around, too. How could I ever love a woman like that?”

Vanessa lowered the knife, though suspicion remained in her eyes. “Really?”

“Really.” Adrian handed her his phone. “Look.”

She turned the volume all the way up.

The unmistakable sounds of sex blared from the phone, turning my stomach.

Dread swept through me. I grabbed my phone and opened social media. My name dominated every trending

list.
