Seven Months Pregnant—My Stepsister Called My Baby a Bastard Chapter 08

Graham remained silent for a long time before forging out one word

“Okay”

Over the next few days, he took leave from work and stayed beside me constantly.

He helped me wash and fed me when my hands shook.

People who did not know the truth looked at him with admiration.

“Your husband takes such good care of you.”

I sipped chicken soup and smiled.

“He’s trying to pay for what he did.”

Graham heard me, lowered his eyes, and said nothing.

Once my body had recovered enough, I called the police.

I described the time, the address, and exactly how Talia had charged at me and shoved me.

I delivered every detail clearly.

The day after detectives collected evidence, Denise arrived with a fruit basket and a strained

smile.

“Maren, are you recovering all right?”

“What happened is over. Can’t we leave it there?”

“You and Talia were friends. You can’t destroy her entire future.”

“If she goes to prison, her life will be ruined.”

“Denise,” I interrupted calmly, “would you forgive the attacker if Talia had been the one who lost her

baby?”

“If my mother were still alive…”

The thought alone made my eyes burn.

I needed a long moment before I could continue.

If Mom were here, she would personally make sure Talia faced every charge”

“She never would ve watched someone abuse me and asked me to accept it

Denise gripped the bed rail and began to plead.

“Maren, you’re a good person. I’m begging you.”

“Talia knows she was wrong.”

“She has cried in terror for days and barely sleeps. Please forgive her this once.”

“Graham, tell Maren that Talia never meant for this to happen.”

Graham said nothing and continued peeling an apple for me.

I pulled my mouth into a humorless smile.

“Fine. I can forgive her.”

“Have her stand outside my hospital room and admit, over and over, that she slept with her

stepbrother and caused my daughter’s death.”

“When I’ve heard enough, maybe I’ll forgive her.”

“You…”

Denise shot upright, her face shifting between white and furious red.

She pointed a shaking finger at me, then stormed out and slammed the door.

I did not care.

I had already given the police every piece of evidence. There would be no private deal.

All I had to do was wait for Talia’s conviction and prison sentence.
