Set You Free, My Lord Chapter 08

Six months later.

Free from the blood bond, I entered the best phase of my life.

My architecture firm became famous in the Pacific Northwest.

My buildings won international awards for their unique healing vibes and human-centric designs.

Architectural Digest even put me on the cover.

They called me “The New Era’s Most Healing Architect.”

More importantly, my relationship with Liam was going strong.

We spent almost every day together. We shared every little moment.

One sunny afternoon, the mailman brought a surprise.

A beautifully printed invitation. It was written in ancient vampire runes on thick parchment:

“Ms. Odette Morrow is cordially invited to the inauguration of Alexander Blackthorne, the new Prince of the Eternal Night Coven. Time: Midnight this Saturday. Location: Moonshadow Castle Great Hall.”

I held it and hesitated for a long time. My fingers brushed over the familiar runes.

Finally, I decided to go with Liam.

Not out of nostalgia. But to say a final goodbye to the past.

“Are you sure you want to go?” Liam asked with concern. He knew what this trip meant to me.

“I have to,” I said firmly. “It’s the only way I can truly move forward.”

The ceremony was at an ancient vampire castle. The grand Gothic building looked solemn and mysterious in the dark.

Stained glass windows leaked dim light. Old stone gargoyles cast twisted shadows in the moonlight.

We walked into the huge hall. The familiar mix of blood and myrrh instantly dragged me back to memories from years ago.

The new Prince, Alexander, greeted us at the door personally.

He looked like he was in his twenties. Blonde hair, blue eyes. Typical Nordic features. But his bright blue eyes held wisdom way beyond his years.

“An honor to have you, Ms. Odette,” Alexander bowed elegantly. Then he gave Liam a friendly nod. “I’ve heard great things about you. I actually visited that children’s hospital you designed. Even yampires can feel that warm, healing atmosphere.”

“Thank you for the compliment, Your Highness,” I replied politely.

Before the ceremony started, I had to ask. “Dorian… where is the former Prince now?”

Alexander’s face grew complex and grave.

He led us to a quiet alcove. “He started a foundation called ‘Light of Redemption’ in the border forests of northern Canada. It protects and rescues outcast supernaturals. Homeless wolf pups, lone vampires, cursed witches… anyone abandoned by mainstream supernatural society.”

He paused. A look of admiration and worry crossed his eyes. “Honestly, we are all shocked. The arrogant Dorian is completely gone. He’s been replaced by someone who truly learned mercy and redemption. He uses his wealth and power to help those who need it most. He never asks for anything in return.”

“Is he… doing okay?” I was surprised to find myself genuinely caring.

Alexander looked even more serious. “Losing a blood bond destroys any vampire Prince. Usually, they fall into permanent depression. Some even choose to walk into the sun to end it all.”

My heart squeezed.

“But Dorian is different,” Alexander went on. “He seemed to turn all his pain and regret into a drive for redemption. Losing you broke him. But it also remade him. He finally learned what love is. Not possession. But a gift. A blessing.”

After the ceremony, I lay awake all night in my hotel room.

Liam noticed my restless mood. He didn’t pry. He just stayed by my side quietly.

Two mornings later, I made a big decision.

“Liam, I need to go somewhere,” I told him while he made breakfast.

“Where?” He put down his coffee mug and looked at me.

“The Canadian border. I need… real closure.”

Liam was quiet for a moment. Then he nodded. “Do you want me to come with you?”

“No. I have to face this alone.” I squeezed his hand. “But thank you for understanding.”

After an eight-hour drive and asking for directions countless times, I finally reached the deep woods at dusk.

The “Light of Redemption” foundation sat on a hill surrounded by tall pines. It was a simple but cozy wooden lodge. A few smaller buildings were nearby. They looked like dorms and a clinic.

From far away, I saw injured animals roaming the yard.

An owl with a broken wing stood on a special perch. A few fox pups played on the grass. A young woman in a lab coat was checking on something that looked like a werewolf pup.

I knocked lightly on the main cabin door. It opened quickly.

I barely recognized Dorian.
