Set You Free, My Lord Chapter 06

For the next two weeks, Dorian lingered around the clinic.

He never showed his face to me. But I knew he was there.

Every dusk, I saw a familiar dark shadow in the woods.

A few times, some shady supernatural creatures showed up in town. But by morning, they were gone. Vanished without a trace. As if a powerful, unseen guardian had swept the town clean.

I knew who was secretly protecting the town. But I didn’t want to admit it. I definitely didn’t want to be grateful.

By this afternoon, I couldn’t stand being stalked anymore.

I pushed the clinic doors open coldly. I walked straight to the shadows at the edge of the parking lot. “Come out, Dorian. Stop hiding in the dark like a coward.”

A cloud of black mist slowly formed into a man. Dorian stepped out of the shadows.

He looked even worse than two weeks ago. A hint of hope flashed in his crimson eyes. But my cold face shattered it instantly.

“Get lost, Dorian,” I snapped. “You just make me sick.”

“I just want to… to make sure you’re safe.” His voice was a whisper, laced with a desperate, humbling plea. “Some bad supernaturals came to town recently. I was worried-”

“You had ten years,” I cut him off, my voice sharp as broken glass. “Ten years of chances to treat me well. To give me basic respect. But you chose humiliation, coldness, and abuse. It’s too late now!”

Dorian looked completely devastated. Every word cut his heart like a knife. “I know… I know I made unforgivable mistakes… But I want to spend my immortality making it up to-”

“No buts!” I roared. My own anger shocked me.

He nodded silently. He gave me a deep look. Then he prepared to turn into mist and leave.

Just then, Liam pulled up in his silver sedan to take me to lunch.

He saw the standoff. He got out of the car immediately. “Odette, is everything okay?”

The two men locked eyes. The air crackled with unspoken challenge.

Liam was just a human. But he didn’t back down. He stood in front of me. His body language showed he was ready to protect me.

Dorian radiated a deadly threat.

I walked up to Liam on purpose. I held his hand intimately. “It’s fine. Just an unwelcome guest.”

Pain flashed in Dorian’s eyes. But he finally backed down. He vanished into the shadows alone.

At lunch, we sat in the cozy Italian restaurant by the sea.

Through the glass, we could see the sparkling ocean. Seagulls flew freely in the blue sky.

I told Liam part of the truth. “That man… we used to have a special connection. But it was a mistake. A nightmare I spent a long time escaping.”

Liam squeezed my hand gently. His palm was warm and dry. It made me feel incredibly safe. “Let the past go. What matters is you’re safe and happy now.”

He paused. A hint of nervous excitement flashed in his eyes. “Odette, there’s a music festival in town tomorrow night. An

outdoor concert at the beach park… Would you go with me? Just the two of us?”

My heart raced. My cheeks flushed.

Five years. Liam was the first person to make me feel truly warm and safe. “I’d love to.”

That afternoon, we got back to the clinic. A few strangers were gathered in the parking lot.

They wore black leather jackets. They reeked of danger. I instantly recognized them. Red Fang vampires.

Three normal vampires surrounded Dorian. Their leader was clearly much stronger. I hid in the car and watched.

“Look who it is,” the leader mocked maliciously. “The once noble Prince of the Eternal Night. You actually gave up your throne for a human who doesn’t love you. Look at you now. Just a wandering ghost!”

Dorian kept his human eye color. He didn’t release his true vampire power. He just warned them calmly. “Leave human territory. You’re not welcome here.”

“Ha! You think you can order us around?” another vampire sneered. “A useless former Prince! You can’t even protect one

human woman now!”

Then the leader started insulting me. He used the most vulgar, disgusting words.

Things changed instantly.

Dorian’s eyes flashed bloody red. It was a vampire’s peak rage.

He took down two enemies with lightning speed. His moves were graceful and deadly. A dance of death.

But the leader was a coward. He pulled a silver dagger and struck while Dorian’s back was turned.

“Watch out!” I blurted out.

Dorian heard me and dodged quickly. But he was a second too late.

The silver dagger left a deep gash on his arm. Blood gushed out.

Instinct took over. I rushed out of the car. I grabbed a metal pipe from the site and swung it at the leader.

“Damn human!” The leader spun around in a rage, ready to kill me.

The next second, Dorian let out a terrifying roar. It sounded like a demon from hell.

He shielded me. Insane bloodlust burned in his eyes.

“Touch one hair on her head, and I will turn you all to ash!” He made a death vow. The most sacred and terrifying vow among vampires.

The Red Fang vampires were terrified by his killer intent. They finally retreated.

But Dorian collapsed from silver poisoning. Silver poison is fatal to vampires. The edges of his wound were already turning black.

“Why…?” he breathed, the word barely a whisper. “Why did you save me?”

“Shut up,” I said coldly. But my hands were surprisingly gentle as I tended to his wound.

The next day, Dorian sat on the bench outside the clinic. He looked a bit better. Still weak, but in better spirits.

When I walked by, he looked at me calmly. “Without you, my immortality means nothing.”

That night, Liam and I went to the festival.

The beach park looked like a fairy tale. Colored lights hung in the trees. A local band played soft folk music.

We strolled through the crowd hand in hand. We enjoyed the perfect night.

A drunk man stumbled into us. Liam reacted fast. He pulled me aside and held me tight against his chest.
