Separated Rooms for Three Years, He Panicked After I Moved Out Chapter 35

His tears finally fell.

He didn’t wipe them away. He just looked at me as they streamed down his face.

“Marceline, I’m sorry…”

“You don’t have to keep saying that.”

“It’s not like you committed some unforgivable crime. You just didn’t love me.”

“Not loving someone isn’t a sin.”

“But you don’t get to ask me to come back just because you regret it now.”

“I’ve already moved on.”

He was silent for a long time, so long I thought he wouldn’t speak again.

Finally, he asked in a raw, hoarse whisper, “Then can you tell me what I have to do to make you turn back?”

“Nothing.”

“Because I’m not turning back.”

I stood and picked up my bag.

“The food was good. Thank you for dinner.”

“Don’t look for me again.”

As I left the private booth, I heard a muffled thud behind me.

Like a fist hitting the table.

I didn’t turn around.

When I walked out of the sushi restaurant, it was raining again.

I stood under the awning, about to call a car, when I heard hurried footsteps behind me.

Briar had followed me out, holding the umbrella I had left in his car earlier.

“Your umbrella.”

His voice was hollow. “Don’t worry. I won’t bother you again.”

When he handed it to me, his cold fingers brushed against mine.

“Thank you.”

I took the umbrella and walked out into the rain without looking back.
