Separated Rooms for Three Years, He Panicked After I Moved Out Chapter 32

For the next week, Briar came every day.

Rain or shine, he was there.

On the day it poured, he stood downstairs holding a large black umbrella. When he saw me come out, he rushed to offer it to me.

“Don’t get wet.”

I refused to take it, so he held the umbrella and followed a few steps behind me.

When I walked faster, he walked faster. When I slowed down, he slowed down.

He kept the umbrella over my head the entire time, while the rain soaked through the shoulder of his own coat.

On the eighth day, I finally broke.

I stood at the entrance of my building and turned to face him.

He was drenched. His hair was plastered to his forehead, his shirt clung to his body, and his lips were pale from the cold.

But he was still smiling at me.

It was a careful, tentative smile, as if he were afraid I would turn and leave at any second.

“Briar, what do you want?”

“I want to take you to dinner.”

“Just one meal.”

“After we eat, I promise I’ll leave. I won’t bother you again.”

I stared at him for a long time.

“You’re sure?”

“I’m sure.”

I was silent for a moment, then let out a sigh.

“Fine. One meal.”

His eyes lit up.

“Okay. What do you want to eat? I know a place nearby—”

“Anything. You pick.”
