Second Lead in My Own Love Story Chapter 08

Luke posted a photo publicly on his social media feed-our marriage certificate.

The caption had only four words: [It’s always been you.]

That post landed like a hard, brutal slap across Sarah’s face.

She lost it, calling Luke over and over, demanding to know what he meant-whether he really intended to cement her reputation as the “other woman” just for my sake.

Luke didn’t respond.

Instead, he immediately posted a long statement in the high school class group chat.

Luke: [Hey guys, I’m sorry for taking up public attention with my personal issues. There are a few things I need to clear up here.]

Luke: [First, Avery and I have been together since freshman year of high school. We’ve been married for five years, and our relationship has always been stable and loving.]

Luke: [Second, what happened at last night’s party was a complete misunderstanding caused by my poor handling of the situation, which put my wife through unnecessary pain.]

Luke: [Third, I love my wife, Avery. The only woman I will ever be married to in this life is her. I hope everyone will stop spreading false rumors and hurting my family.]

The moment those words were sent, the entire group chat fell dead silent.

A few seconds later, it exploded.

One by one, the classmates who had once isolated me and misjudged me all jumped in.

[Holy crap! Luke, why didn’t you say this earlier?! You let us misunderstand Avery for years!]

[Exactly! We always thought Avery was the one getting between you and Sarah… we even shut her out back then…]

[@Avery, I’m so sorry. I’m really sorry. We were so stupid. We were all fooled by Sarah!]

[@Sarah, show yourself! Did you know they were together the whole time and still played the innocent victim? You owe Avery an apology!]

With everyone tagging her relentlessly, Sarah had nowhere left to hide. In the end, she couldn’t face it anymore and left the group.

A drama that had lasted ten years finally came to an end-in the most public, humiliating way possible.

Then Luke tagged me in the group chat.

[@Avery, my wife, I’m sorry. Please forgive me, okay? Please come home.]

Looking at those overdue clarifications and his emotionally charged apology, I felt nothing at all.

I only replied with two lines.

One in the group chat: [It’s all in the past.]

And one in a private message: [Don’t forget to sign the papers.]

On the other end of the screen, Luke sat in the messy living room, staring at my cold words.

His eyes turned red instantly.

He knew it. He was ten years too late. And those ten years… could never be taken back.

In the end, Luke still signed the divorce agreement.

But during the following thirty-day waiting period, he became someone else entirely.

He started desperately-awkwardly-trying to win me back.

On the first day, he showed up outside my hotel with a huge bouquet of white roses, my favorite. He had

believed that, like before, I would soften as long as he lowered his head just a little.

I walked straight through the lobby without even glancing at him, as if he were nothing more than a

stranger.

On the second day, he brought breakfast he had made himself and waited at the entrance of my company right when I arrived for work. Inside the container were my favorite pastries, bought from the old bakery shop we used to go to-he had queued up there early that morning.

I took the coffee handed to me by a coworker and said politely, “Luke, please have some respect for yourself.”

On the seventh day, he booked out the movie theater where we had our first date, playing the exact same old film we had watched together.

He personally handed me the two tickets, his eyes carrying a trace of humble expectation.

I casually passed the tickets to the girl at the front desk and smiled.

“Here. You can have them.”
