Guards swiftly rushed to my side when they saw a staff member kneeling, but I stopped them from seizing Theo. All eyes were on us now.

“What do you want, Theo?”

“I want you to accept me as I am. I’ll worship you. I’ll cherish you for the rest of my life. Just give me another chance.”

“Aww, what a sad little doggy,” I sat back and crossed my legs. “Start now. Lick the sole of my shoe.”

“W-what?”

“I thought you said you’d worship me? Prove it.” I shoved my heel in his face.

Theo leaned forward and actually licked it, shame all over his face. The room went silent.

“Too bad,” I said pleasantly. “I don’t associate with rotten things.”

He reached for my leg. A guard stepped between them before his hand made contact.

“Get him out,” I ordered.

“No! No! You must take me back! I still love you with all my heart!”

Suddenly there was a shout from the far end of the hall.

“I TOLD YOU TO BACK OFF!”

We all turned to see what had happened.

To my surprise, it was Gemma, being yelled at by a man I recognised as one of my directors.

She was wearing that same island blue dress from two months ago, but the colour had faded and her hair looked like she had been living outdoors. Theo’s narrowed eyes told me he hadn’t known Gemma was here.

I walked up to the commotion.

“What is going on here?”

“Miss Crest, this woman has been pestering me since she arrived. Not only did she make sexual advances, she also touched my chest without my consent. If it were the other way around, I’d be in handcuffs—”

“I told you to stay home!” Theo erupted. “I had a plan. Harper was almost ready 40 take me back!”

“You mean the empty house we are about to be kicked out of? I’ve been sleeping on the floor for seven weeks! And what stupid plan? You’re already getting kicked out. Take a look at me. I haven’t felt like myself in weeks. If you won’t take care of me properly, I’ll find a real man who will.”

“You traitor. You can’t seduce another man while you belong to me!”

While part of me felt satisfied by their display, this was my inauguration. My event. My building.

“Security! Please remove these lovebirds and let them continue their romance elsewhere.”

The two shouted at each other all the way out.

I focused back on my inauguration and it was a huge success.

Everyone in the room treated me with the respect my position commanded. I genuinely loved the Crest Group and I felt fulfilled every single day I got to work.

“Ma’am, you may want to turn on the TV. Gemma Rhodes has gone live,” Priya, my personal assistant, informed me.

It had been three weeks since the inauguration. I turned on the TV out of idle curiosity.

The two of them were standing in a room with no furniture whatsoever in the background. Gemma’s hair was getting matted. Theo’s shirt had stains all over it.

They were reading from a script. I could tell because they both kept glancing slightly to the left.

“We are truly sorry for any pain we may have caused,” Gemma said. “If you can find it in your heart to support us during this difficult time, any donation, however small-”

“Would mean the world,” Theo continued.

“To both of us.”

“We are truly sorry.”

“Any donation-”

“However small-”

“Would mean the world.”

They went on like that for several minutes.

The comments were not kind.

“This is the worst apology tour I’ve ever seen in my life.”

“However small Imaooo they really said any coin will do.”

“Not a single tear. Not a single genuine word. These two deserve each other and also prison.”

“I will not be donating. I will however be watching this train wreck.”

Until Gemma lost patience.

“Just stop. Stop it. Can’t you see it’s not working?”

“You don’t know that yet. Keep going!”

“I haven’t slept in a proper bed in two months. I have sold all my belongings to feed us. I have no money for bus fare or decent clothes. I haven’t been styled in months. Go and find a real job, Theo! This was never supposed to be my life.”

“Then maybe you shouldn’t have seduced me!” Theo shot back. “You walked onto that set and you turned everything on. You knew exactly what you were doing. Don’t rewrite the story now-”

“You forced yourself on me!”

The comments went from moving fast to moving even faster.

“Wait. Wait wait wait.”

“Did she just say forced?”

“I need everyone to be very quiet.”

“You forced me,” Gemma said again, louder now, looking directly at the camera. “He forced himself on me the day we met. And then he told me to keep quiet and play along, even though he had a wife at home. I never wanted any of this. I was trapped.” She pointed at him. “And since we moved in together, he has put his hands on me every night. I have bruises right now. Someone please, call someone. Call the police. Call anyone. Please.”

Theo panicked and lunged for her. She pulled back, but he grabbed her arm. She screamed and yanked, and then he threw her.

It happened so fast. One second she was pulling away and the next she was across the room, and then came the terrible sound of a head hitting a hard corner. Gemma was on the floor and she wasn’t moving.

Theo stood over her. He looked at the back of her head, then at his hands.

He ran for the door, but as he opened it, the sound of sirens filled the room. The police had been waiting for him.

Theo was arrested on the spot. Gemma was rushed to the hospital. She had a severe brain injury and was placed in a coma, while Theo received a twenty-year prison, sentence.

A year later, Crest Entertainment Group had transformed under my leadership. I launched multiple new projects and expanded into new subsidiaries.

I was thriving in every area of my life – my work, my relationships, my sense of self.

And I loved every second of it.
