Revenge of the Missing Wife Chapter 23

Revenge of the Missing Wife Chapter 23

Those images became an endless nightmare, looping over and over in Landon’s mind.

Even when he shut his eyes, they stayed-burned into his memory, vivid and inescapable.

After a long time, he finally broke.

Crushed by guilt, he whispered again and again, “I’m sorry, Eleanor… I’m sorry…”

But no matter how many times he apologized, the torment didn’t stop.

His body was soaked in cold sweat.

He stumbled through the darkness, groping blindly, trying to escape.

Eventually, he found a bathroom.

Standing before the mirror, seeing his disheveled reflection, he felt nothing but disgust.

He turned the hot water all the way up and scrubbed himself again and again, as if trying to peel his own skin off.

“Eleanor… I’m not dirty…”

“I’ll never touch anyone else again… I swear…”

“I’m not dirty…”

He muttered the words, dazed, almost delirious.

He didn’t know how long it lasted before the torment finally ended.

When he was released, his eyes were hollow.

His entire body radiated exhaustion and defeat.

Passersby stared at him strangely on the street, but he didn’t notice at all.

He was sent back to his hotel.

For several days, he stayed there recovering. Work piled up endlessly-Alex kept sending urgent matters one after another. He was so busy he barely had time to breathe, let alone come looking for me again.

Chapter 23

Only after everything was finally under control did he manage to catch his breath.

He called Alex.

“Contact a professional psychological care facility.”

“Arrange long-term counseling and vocational training for Ava Monroe.”

“I’ll cover the costs. But after that, she’ll support herself.”

Alex carried out the order immediately.

A few days later, Landon found where I lived.

That day, he knocked on our door.

No one answered.

He didn’t rush. He simply stood there and waited.

Until evening, when Carter and I returned together.

The moment he saw me, he stepped forward.

“Eleanor, I know I’ve done a lot wrong.”

“I don’t expect your forgiveness.”

“I just want you to know… I truly love you. That hasn’t changed.”

His voice was low, heavy with something like quiet despair.

I looked at him warily, instinctively stepping back.

“Landon Blackwood, I don’t need your apology.”

“What you should do is let me go-and let yourself go.”

“Right now, you only scare me.”

“When you cared about Ava, you tortured me like that.”

“And now that you’ve turned back to me, you’re doing the same thing to her.”

“Your kind of love is terrifying. I don’t want it.”

My voice was sharp, my fear unmistakable.

I almost wanted to retreat straight into Carter’s arms.
