Eleanor returned six months later.

I was walking back from the territory healer’s den with Liam when I saw a figure crouched outside the Moon

Temple gate.

It was her.

She had become thin and pale. Her belly was swollen. She was close to giving birth.

When she saw me, tears immediately filled her eyes.

She reached toward me.

“Betty… Please help me…”

Liam stepped between us.

Eleanor knelt at the temple gate. Shaking. Crying.

Then she told me everything.

After John sent her away, she had fallen in with rogue wolves.

A greedy rogue Alpha had taken her.

He forced her through heat and left her carrying his pup..

Then she discovered he already had a mate.

His she-wolf had beaten her.

Locked her away.

She planned to kill Eleanor after the pup was born.

Eleanor barely escaped.

And she returned to Greenwood Pack.

I looked at her quietly.

“You shouldn’t have come to me. You should find John.”

Her sobs became louder.

“He doesn’t want me anymore! After he sent me away, he never answered my calls. I went back-he

wouldn’t even open the door.”

“He looked at me like I was nothing.” Her voice broke.

“He used to be so kind to me. I thought I was special. But after you left… I finally understood.”

She looked up at me,

Her eyes were swollen and red.

“He loved you. Everything he did for me… was because you cared about me.”

I froze.

Eleanor took out a worn leather journal.

John’s handwriting filled every page.

Every entry was about me.

While he took Eleanor to the market, he recorded what I had eaten for lunch.

While he traveled with her, he wrote about wondering if I was crying alone.

One page had been pressed so hard that the paper was almost torn apart.

[Today she didn’t call.]

[Every other day, she always called.]

I closed the journal.

Something moved inside my chest.

But it no longer hurt.

So he had cared.

But his way of caring…

Was humiliating me in front of the Pack.

Making me wait behind Eleanor.

Locking me inside the arena while I carried my shame.

He was afraid I would stop loving him.

So he hurt me.

Thinking pain would make me stay.

How ridiculous.

I handed the journal back.

“Leave. Don’t come back to me.”

Eleanor collapsed to her knees.

“Betty! You’re the only one who can save me! Please. Just tell John you forgive him. He’ll help me then! He

only listens to you. He always has…”

She cried on the temple steps.

Pouring out every misery she had suffered.

I looked past her.

And saw John standing in the distance.
