Rejected Three Years Ago, I Came Back as Luna Queen Chapter 06

Rejected Three Years Ago, I Came Back as Luna Queen Chapter 06

Her face twisted as she spoke. Even though I had looked at that exact same face in the mirror countless times, in that moment, I found it hideous.

Whenever no one was around, she had always been like this, ever since we were kids.

I carried the tonic into the kitchen.

“You don’t need to be so afraid of me. You two already signed a mate contract. I have zero interest in a bonded Alpha.”

Behind me came the sharp crash of a vase shattering on the floor.

I was used to it. Reaching for the small pot by the stove, I started simmering the tonic.

There were only three hours left until Vincent arrived. I had to hurry.

Since it was just for one person, I didn’t need to brew much.

By noon, the rumble of an engine echoed outside. A Rolls-Royce pulled up to the entrance, and the first thing to step out was a pair of mirror-polished leather shoes.

I honestly wondered if the shine on them could reflect light.

The man had long, straight legs. As he moved, his tailored trousers perfectly traced the crisp, sharp lines of his thighs—just the right amount of power, built far better than any male model’s.

Broad shoulders, narrow waist, sharp dark brows extending toward his temples, and deep-set eyes that carried an effortless, distant coldness. Just like when he was a kid.

Every single strand of hair was styled to perfection, clearly held in place by generous amounts of hairspray.

My father put on his usual authoritative elder stance and greeted him.

Vincent politely signaled his assistant to carry the gifts over. Seeing them, my father grinned from ear to ear, looking thoroughly pleased.

“Come on in, sit and talk. Lunch is ready anyway.”

Vincent nodded with a subtle smile. As he passed me, his footsteps paused.

“This is for you.”

I looked down at the velvet box he handed over. It looked a bit worn on the outside, but when I opened it, inside lay a violet moonstone necklace.

“My mother picked it out specifically. My grandmother gave it to her at her mating ceremony. She said girls would prefer this shade of purple.”

The box suddenly felt hot in my hands.

Sensing my hesitation, he thought I had misunderstood and pulled out another box.

“There’s also an emerald necklace. She said as pretty as the first one is, true sincerity requires options.”

Seeing that I still hadn’t accepted them, his brows furrowed. Anyone else might have thought he was getting impatient.

Yet somehow, I caught a glimpse of nervousness and hurt in his eyes.

I sighed, not wanting to embarrass him in front of everyone, and took them.

Looking at the far more expensive emerald necklace in my hands, I felt like I was holding the deeds to a luxury estate.

My father nodded approvingly.

“The violet moonstone really does suit young women. Take it over later and let your sister have a look, too.”

My grip tightened around the jewelry box.

Vincent glanced at him. Standing tall and imposing, his gaze alone made the air drop a few degrees.

“Alpha Theodore, these pieces are precious. My mother specifically chose them for her future daughter-in-law. As long as Olivia is happy with them, that’s all that matters. We wouldn’t want them getting scratched… or stolen by outsiders.”

His words were harsh. He didn’t say “borrowed” or “taken”—he used the most damning word: “stolen.”

My father’s face darkened instantly.

The Whitemoon Pack had gained immense power over recent years, with their legitimate businesses rising to the top of the industry.

Still, clinging to his status as the potential father-in-law, my father spoke up for Emily anyway.

“Emily is sensible and sweet. Why would she steal her sister’s things?”

A cold scoff sounded beside me.

“She dared to steal an Alpha. Why wouldn’t she steal jewelry?”

I snapped my head up to look at him. When our eyes met, I realized his gaze had never left me.

Instantly, I didn’t know where to look.

My father’s face sank completely. Without another word, he turned and led the way inside.

Vincent kept his usual permanent icy expression, walking side by side with me down the pathway. Our shadows brushed against each other now and then, and I could feel the tension radiating off him.

Thinking back to his sharp tongue a moment ago, I couldn’t help teasing him.

“Talking back to him like that… aren’t you afraid he’ll refuse to let me marry you?”

He turned to look at me, his eyes dead serious.

“As long as you’re willing to marry me, that’s all that matters.”

He pressed his lips together, suddenly looking a bit unsure.

“I didn’t mean to be rude, but he’s not just biased—he’s blind. I just wanted to remind him.”

“Are you upset with me?”

He blurted out the explanation all at once.

I lowered my head, unable to keep the corners of my mouth from curving upward.

“No.”

The stiff shoulders beside me visibly relaxed, and his stride grew noticeably lighter.

At the dining table.

My mother eagerly piled food onto his plate, while my father remained tight-lipped and cold the entire time.

Emily picked at her food while stealing glances at Vincent sitting next to me.

“Vincent, what brings you over so suddenly?”

He paused the chopsticks he was using to peel a shrimp for me.

“First of all, we aren’t close. You can call me Vincent Grayson, or Mr. Grayson.”

Emily’s face flushed bright red with embarrassment and indignation.

“Second, I came today to discuss marriage arrangements with Olivia.”

“What marriage arrangements?!”

Urgent footsteps echoed from the entryway.

Everyone turned to look just as Brandon rushed in, still wearing his suit, not even having taken off his glasses yet.

His gaze locked onto Vincent, words forced out through gritted teeth.

“Whose marriage arrangements?”
