Rejected Eleven Times, I Chose a Second Mate Instead Chapter 03

Rejected Eleven Times, I Chose a Second Mate Instead Chapter 03

The next day, I arrived at Yvette’s birthday party.

The walls were plastered with photos of her late mother and pictures of their perfect little family of three.

Yvette wore a gorgeous princess gown, her arm naturally linked through Victor’s.

She looked every bit the Moonveil Pack heir and Thornveil Pack’s future Luna.

As I walked in, whispers trailed behind me.

“Ten blind selections and he’s never picked her. Is she that desperate, or is he just leading her on?”

“What do you mean? He only proposed out of pity. She actually took it seriously. And now she’s trashing Yvette online, calling her a mistress.”

“Alpha Victor and Yvette are made for each other. Ten times in a row isn’t luck. It’s the Moon Goddess’s will.”

Victor came over and handed me a prepared speech. “Read this on stage.”

[Yesterday, I was jealous that Victor picked Yvette, so I slandered her by calling her a mistress. And for the record, she’s not illegitimate…]

I couldn’t believe it.

He wanted me to admit my mother was the mistress and I was the bastard!

I laughed coldly, tore the speech apart, and threw the shreds in his face.

“Yvette’s mother was the other woman. And Yvette is just like her!”

The guests gasped.

Yvette’s face froze. Then she gathered her skirts, her face crumpling with fake sorrow. “Please, Vera…”

“I know you’re upset about the blind selection results, but that doesn’t give you the right to slander me and my mother like this.”

“The truth is… your mother had a psychotic episode and ran my mother down with her car. You threatened me to keep quiet, and I have all these years because I wanted us to be sisters again…”

She “accidentally” showed her arms. They were covered in dark purple bruises.

The crowd erupted.

Victor took one look and turned to me with pure disappointment.

“So you and your mother have been bullying Yvette and her mother all along!”

“Your mother killed her mother, and then the two of you teamed up to ruin Yvette!”

I stood there in shock. “My mother never did any of that!”

The next second, my father grabbed me by the arm, his voice ice-cold. “How did I raise a daughter like you? She’s your sister, Vera!”

Voices swirled around me, twisted and cruel.

“I can’t believe her mother is crazy and a murderer.”

“The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. She’s obviously insane too, bullying her own sister like that.”

My legs gave out. I crumpled to the floor.

Victor’s face burned with embarrassment. He turned to his assistant. “Put her mother in a mental institution. That’s the least we can do for Yvette.”

My father looked like he wanted to speak, but he said nothing.

I scrambled to my feet, shaking. “There’s nothing wrong with my mother! Yvette is lying!”

“Enough!” Victor’s voice boomed. “Haven’t you embarrassed us enough? Apologize to Yvette. Now.”

He grabbed my arm and yanked me forward. “Apologize!”

“Vera, are you okay?” Yvette rushed over with a fake look of concern, then put her mouth to my ear.

“Victor put me in charge of the kidney donation. But the donor just called and said he doesn’t want to go through with it. So your mother will have to keep waiting.”

“Assuming she lasts that long in that mental hospital before the next match comes along…”

Her face loomed in front of me, full of taunting triumph.

I snapped. Like a madwoman, I grabbed her hair and I started to demand answers.

The smartwatch linked to my mother went off like a siren.

My head shot up to find Yvette smirking.

“Yvette, if you touch one hair on her head…”
