Rejected by My Pack, Crowned by the Empire Chapter 08

Serena screamed and sobbed hysterically.

But this time, no one rushed to comfort her.

My father closed his eyes, looking exhausted.

“Enough. We took you in, raised you for years, and we have spared no expense and never wronged you in any way.”

“And this is how you repay us? You’ve torn this family apart.”

Serena’s face drained of color.

“No, please don’t do this to me.”

My father’s voice was ice-cold.

“Leave. And don’t ever come back.”

Serena froze completely, dumbfounded.

“I’m sorry! I know I was wrong-please don’t send me away!”

She reached for my mother’s hand, sobbing.

“Mom, you love me the most. You can’t bear to let me go, right?”

My mother pulled away.

She turned to Damon next.

He looked away, refusing to even glance at her.

Panic set in. Her last hope was Zayne.

She grabbed his wrist.

“Zayne, you said I was your only sister. You promised you’d always protect me. Please help me- don’t let them send me away.”

Zayne stepped back sharply, disgust written all over his face.

It was the first time he’d ever looked at her like that.

“Serena, feeling sorry for you is the greatest regret I will ever carry in my life.”

“I was terribly wrong to use you as a cheap substitute to fill the empty space whenever Evelyn was

gone.”

His voice turned cold.

“If it weren’t for you, Evelyn wouldn’t have left. This family wouldn’t have fallen apart. And I might

have had the chance to tell her how much her brother really cared.”

“Get out. I never want to see you again.”

Serena slumped to the floor, her face ashen.

Meanwhile, a thousand kilometers away, in the capital of the Lycan Empire…

I was about to form my mate bond.

I sat in my room, looking out the window, my eyes stinging.

A Moonlit Wedding Carriage sat in the courtyard.

The most striking thing about it was the countless pearls embedded across its frame. Each pearl was full and flawless, glimmering like fragments of fallen moonlight.

Everyone who saw it gasped.

“Good heavens, this must have cost an absolute fortune.”

My adoptive mother, the Luna of the Lycan Empire, stood beside me, warm smile lines crinkled at

the corners of her eyes.

“Nothing matters more than making my daughter happy.”

My throat tightened. These pearls weren’t bought.

My adoptive parents had gathered every single one themselves.

This tradition didn’t even exist here. But they’d endured blazing heat and dove into the ocean.

repeatedly.

Saltwater left their feet pale and wrinkled, while sharp reef rocks cut their palms open.

Still, they’d collected each pearl with a smile.

My adoptive father, the imposing Lycan King, rested his hand on my head.

“Anything other girls have, our Evelyn deserves too. Better than theirs, even.”

Tears spilled down my cheeks as I stared at the carriage full of pearls.

Just as I was about to step into the carriage, a commotion broke out.

“Evelyn!”

I stiffened.

My birth parents, Zayne, and Damon-all of them were there. They appeared worn out and

disheveled from their long journey, as if they’d traveled for days without sleep.

Damon’s eyes went red the moment he saw me in my wedding gown.

“You’re my fated mate. How can you bond with someone else?!”

He lunged for my hand. I stepped back, dodging him.

Damon froze, his arm still reaching out.

I looked at him calmly.

“Sir, lease maintain your proper boundaries. You’ve already formed your mate bond.”

That single sentence sliced straight through Damon’s heart.

“Evelyn, please don’t talk to me like that.”

His voice was rough and hoarse with desperation.

“I know I made a terrible mistake. Let’s go to the Moon Goddess-I’ll mark you. Please.”

My mother was weeping openly.

“Evelyn, I came to apologize. Serena fooled me. I believed her lies and hurt you over and over.”

My father stood beside her, his hair now heavily streaked with premature gray.

“Evelyn, Serena got what she deserved. Not long after we sent her away, she was actually diagnosed

with cancer.”

“We won’t soften toward her again. Please come home.”

Zayne stepped forward, his eyes red-rimmed.

“Evelyn, you’ve always been the sister in my heart. I just didn’t know how to show it. Give us a chance to make it right.”

They all stared at me, their gazes filled with yearning, remorse, and desperate supplication.
