In the afternoon, the healer called me in for a follow-up exam. I had no choice but to drag my weak body out of bed alone.

Passing by the next room, I saw my parents and Zephyr all gathered around Selene, fussing over her.

My Alpha father, Orion, was tucking her in, while my Luna mother, Isadora, was peeling grapes and feeding them to her.

Selene wore a sweet smile, her voice soft and coy. “Dad, Mom, you’ve been taking care of me all this time and haven’t even gone to see Nova.”

“I’m full now, why don’t you take the rest of this venison soup to her? She was hurt so badly, she definitely needs the nourishment.”

“Oh, don’t worry about her. That girl could survive anything. I spent all night on that soup; giving it to her would be a waste.”

Orion refused without a second thought, and Isadora nodded in agreement.

Zephyr gently brushed the hair from her forehead, his eyes overflowing with tenderness. “Selene, the healer said you fainted because you were worrying too much.”

“Nova has always been cold and heartless, with no regard for sisterly bonds. She even dared to try to steal her own sister’s mate. Why do you still bother with her?”

Hearing his cold assessment, I let out a bitter, self-mocking laugh.

I’ve been allergic to venison since birth, but since it’s Selene’s favorite, it was on the table for every meal.

I couldn’t eat any of it, I had to survive on bread instead. And even then, my parents scolded me for being a picky eater.

Selene always acted so concerned about me in front of others, but whenever we were alone, she would constantly taunt me, and occasionally even hit me.

But after beating me, Selene would cry and tattle, twisting the truth.

My parents wouldn’t even ask for my side of the story; they locked me outside in the rain all night.

From then on, I kept my distance from my sister. Whatever Selene wanted, I let her have.

Now, I just want to live my own life. No more fighting, no more competing, no more loving.

I finished my examination alone and went to pick up my prescription.

The pharmacy was in the building behind the main one, requiring a walk through a garden.

As I passed the fountain, someone blocked my path. I looked up and saw Selene.

“Oh, up and about so soon? Guess you weren’t that hurt after all.”

“Let me tell you, Mom and Dad are on my side.”

“Even if you told Zephyr that you were the one with him back then, that the Moon Goddess truly destined you as his mate, it wouldn’t matter. Save your energy!”

Facing her provocation, my response was flat.

“Don’t worry. From now on, I won’t like Zephyr anymore. Everything you want, I’ll give up to you.”

Selene was used to my submissive attitude, and the smug look in her eyes grew.

“Give up? Do I need you to give up anything? I’ve always gotten whatever I wanted! You only get the scraps I don’t want! You can never compete with me!”

I didn’t want to engage with her taunts. I tried to step aside and leave.

Seeing me try to escape, Selene frowned, about to yell at me again, when a familiar figure appeared in the corridor.

A thought crossed her mind. She grabbed my hand and dragged me into the pond.

Neither of us could swim. We thrashed in the water, shouting for help.

My wounds reopened, staining the water red with blood.

Freezing water rushed into my nose and mouth, making me cough incessantly.

The pain was so intense I had no strength left to struggle. My body sank straight down.

Just as I was about to drown, I saw Zephyr sprint towards us and dive in.

He swam right past me, not a single glance my way, not a hint of help. He scooped Selene into his arms and climbed out.

Selene, her eyes red, threw herself into his embrace. She looked at me, still struggling in the water, and feigned anxiety.

“Nova accidentally pushed me in, Zephyr. You know she’s my only sister. Can you please save her?”

Hearing her words, looking at the person in the water, Zephyr’s face turned cold as ice.

“Selene, stop making excuses for her. She probably tried to drown you on purpose, and jumped in herself as some sort of act.”

“Since she won’t change, let her stay in that water and think about what she’s done!”

Every single word pierced my heart like a knife.

My face was turning purple from lack of air, my ears ringing, all my strength gone. My consciousness grew dim as the scene before my eyes starting to blur.

I watched helplessly as Zephyr carried Selene away, then blacked out.
